Engineer - Product Certification
Location: Kearny Mesa, San Diego, CA (onsite)

Summary
Solar Turbines designs and manufactures industrial gas turbine packages for global Oil & Gas and Power Generation applications. The Product Certification Engineering team ensures these systems meet global safety, regulatory, and compliance requirements across all markets.
We are seeking an Engineer to support product compliance, inspection, and certification activities for global sales orders. This role supports project execution through verification of compliance, inspection‑oriented certification activities, and coordination with internal stakeholders and third‑party certification agencies. The position is critical to safe and timely order execution and provides a strong foundation for continued development within Certification Engineering. Experience with industrial equipment, rotating machinery, or complex mechanical/electrical systems is highly valuable.
Key Responsibilities
- Support verification of product compliance with applicable regulations, directives, codes, and standards for assigned projects.
- Perform inspection‑oriented certification activities, including review of drawings, calculations, technical documentation, inspection records, and test reports.
- Support Project Design Engineering during sales order execution by applying established certification requirements and guidance.
- Develop working knowledge of applicable standards and regulatory frameworks (UL/CSA, NEC/NFPA, CE Marking, ATEX/PED, IEC/ISO, and regional requirements).
- Interface with third‑party certification agencies and suppliers to support inspections, reviews, and approvals under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Apply established Machinery/Product Safety and compliance principles in support of project execution.
- Support standardized work processes, certification documentation, and test execution activities.
- Provide compliance‑related input to design, production, manufacturing, and commissioning teams as required.
- Demonstrate solid engineering judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to execute tasks against project schedules.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Familiarity with mechanical systems, machinery installations, and industrial applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to Product Certification, regulatory compliance, inspection, or audit activities.
- Experience supporting engineering projects, manufacturing, or field activities.
- Mechanical, hydro‑mechanical, or electrical package experience.
- Quality Management or inspection support experience.
- Internal Field Representative or commissioning support experience.
- Experience supporting work with certification bodies such as UL, CSA, QPS, DNV, ABS, or Bureau Veritas.
Additional Information
This is an onsite role based in Kearny Mesa, San Diego, with no travel required. New team members will complete a structured, competency‑based training program delivered in two phases, with increasing subject complexity. Training is supported by on‑the‑job mentorship from senior engineers, process owners, and the group manager.

Summary Pay Range:
$89,210.00 - $133,810.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
