Job Description
Job Title: Engineering Communications Specialist Pay Rate: $40-$48/hr. Location: Natick Duration: 1-year assignment (approved until July 2027) Shift: M-F 1st ShiftCore Competencies & Soft Skills:
- High level of maturity and autonomy; no handholding required.
- Ability to sit in executive-level meetings, extract key communication points, and independently craft executive-level communications and presentations.
- Strong executive summarizing and message alignment skills.
- Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft 365 Suite (PowerPoint, Word) for creating high-level presentations and executive summaries utilizing data.
- System Environment: The broader engineering group uses Atlassian tools (Jira, Jama), but the candidate will primarily operate within standard business tools rather than technical engineering software. Location & Work Dynamics
- Create high-quality communication assets, including:
- Executive presentations and leadership decks
- Organization-wide updates, announcements, and narratives
- Talking points, FAQs, and summaries
- Internal knowledge hub and content platforms
- Ensure all communications are clear, concise, audience-appropriate, and high signal
- Translate Engineering strategy, transformation efforts, and operating priorities into clear, repeatable messaging
- Build and maintain core narrative frameworks used across leadership communications
- Drive consistency across forums, channels, and leadership voices
- Partner directly with the Chief of Staff and Engineering leaders to:
- Shape messaging for all-hands, QBRs, and major milestones
- Prepare executives with strong framing and talking points
- Serve as a trusted advisor on how and when to communicate (without owning the decisions)
- Support communications tied to planning cycles, product milestones, and org changes
- Develop structured communication plans for changes in process, tooling, or operating model
- Reinforce messaging over time across multiple channels to drive adoption
- Partner with Enterprise Communications to ensure alignment with corporate voice and standards
- Translate enterprise messaging for Engineering audiences (and vice versa)
- Ensure Engineerings story is accurately represented at the enterprise level
- Exceptional writing and editing skills (you are the final quality bar)
- Ability to distill complex technical topics into clear, plain language
- Strong storytelling instincts and narrative development skills
- High judgment and discretion when working with senior leaders
- Executive-level presentation and slide development
- Experience supporting change, transformation, or large-scale initiatives
- Comfort working directly with engineers and technical leadership
- Strong sense of structure, flow, and visual communication
- Operates independently with minimal direction
- Influences without formal authority
- Balances speed with accuracy
- Thrives in ambiguity and shifting priorities
- Detail-oriented without losing the bigger picture
- 5+ years in communications, internal communications, or a similar role
- Experience supporting senior leadership in complex organizations
- Exposure to engineering, technology, or R&D environments strongly preferred
- Experience in matrixed organizations is a plus
- Leaders consistently rely on and trust your communications
- Messages are clearly understood across Engineering
- Communication improves alignment
- Changing initiatives land faster because people understand them
- Strong alignment between Engineering messaging and enterprise narratives
- Owns the creation and quality of Engineering internal communications
- Influences messaging clarity, timing, format, and channel strategy

- HR and IT (for change execution)
