As a member of the Payload Launch Site Support Services (PLSSS) team at Vandenberg Space Force Base, you will contribute directly to the safe, reliable launch of critical space missions. The Payload Launch Site Support Services program provides the full spectrum of launch processing support for the Office of Space Launch, operating out of Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA, and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, FL. PLSSS is responsible for satellite launch processing, transport operations, propellant loading activities, and the operation and maintenance of satellite processing and administrative support facilities.

As an Engineering Design Checker / Configuration Analyst on the Payload Launch Site Support Services team at Vandenberg SFB, you will be at the heart of the satellite launch mission, ensuring that every technical drawing is complete and compliant with ASME Y14.5 standards and that configuration records are comprehensive and accurate. In this role, you'll review and refine 2 D AutoCAD drawings for complex satellite transportation, fueling, and processing systems and facilities, support baseline documentation and change control processes using CMStat PLM tools, and collaborate daily with senior engineers across disciplines to translate design intent into clear, release ready documentation.

The position requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance; it serves as a launchpad toward design engineer or systems engineer roles for anyone eager to contribute to high impact space launch missions

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical, or related engineering degree
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD 2024 (or more recent) working in model-space and paper-space environments
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an elevated U.S. government security clearance
  • Must be a US citizen

Desired Skills:

  • Experience managing drawing revisions, baseline documentation release, and change control processes
  • Ability to identify, document, and annotate errors in blueprints
  • A working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 drafting standards to ensure proper orthographic projections, sections, and views
  • Demonstrated experience creating and/or maintaining technical drawings of engineered systems, fabricated parts, sub-assemblies, top-assemblies, and facility systems
  • Understanding of fabrication and assembly techniques to verify that parts can be manufactured and assembled correctly
  • Advanced AutoCAD proficiency or certification
  • Working knowledge using 3D modeling software (e.g., CREO, SolidWorks) and Exporting models into AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Tools such as CMStat, PDMPlus, Windchill or equivalent
  • Experience performing technical, functional, or physical drawing technical verifications or audits
  • Experience processing Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), configuration deviations, and waivers
  • Tracking configuration data, documenting revisions, and keeping Configuration Management Databases
  • Understanding of machining, welding, and sheet metal processes to verify that designs are manufacturable, designed for assembly, and are readily maintainable in the future
  • Well versed with MS Office, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams
  • An active Top Secret clearance is a definite plus

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $49,700 - $87,515. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

This position is incentive plan eligible.

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $57,100 - $99,015. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
