NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP). Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee. PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions. Qualifications: HS/GED Degree with minimum additional experience of 5 year(s) in Road Maintenance and/or Construction Duties: Serve as an Engineering Equipment Operator in the Division of Facility Management at Mount Rainier National Park and within the Roads Crew work group. The main duties of this position revolve around snow removal. Enrollee is responsible for safely operating front-loaders, road graders, backhoes, snowplows, dump trucks, and trailers to transport materials and maintain parkwide roads and parking areas. Crews are required to perform pre trip inspections and communicate any performance or functionality issues to work leader or supervisor. Equipment Operation ? Operates gasoline or diesel-powered engineering and construction equipment with wheeled or crawler type traction, such as road graders, tractors with bulldozers, angle dozer blades, front end loaders, backhoes and large industrial tractors with attachments. Operates equipment to push, pull, pile, excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth and or refuse. Operates up to 14 cubic yard straight dump trucks or truck tractor with belly or side dump trailers for purpose of moving dirt, blacktop and coarse materials for roadway and shoulder, hauling rip rap, barriers and logs. Operates vehicles and equipment to perform snow removal along park roadways and parking areas. This position will mostly involve snow removal, operating snowplows, loaders, bulldozers, graders, and rotary snowblower trucks. 80% Project Support ? Uses hand tools to maintain and clean culverts, ditches and other water drainages. Uses hand and power tools to repair damaged pavement. Performs the work of a flagger. Assists in striping and maintenance of parking areas and roadways. 15% Other ? Perform administrative duties related to time keeping. Maintain National Park Service property, such as computers, cameras, printers and other hardware or software needed for the position. 5% Other: Required Certifications: Commercial Driver?s License Type A Overnight travel: If enrollee does not live within commuting distance of the park, travel to the park will be required. Air travel anticipated: Depending on enrollee location, air travel may be required Health and Safety Considerations: Avalanche forecasts are evaluated. Avalanche assessments are conducted as crews work their way up the road. Crews are required to perform pre trip inspections and communicate any performance or functionality issues to work leader or supervisor. Required Safety Gear: Hard Hat, Eye Protection, Ear Protection and Gloves will be provided to access construction site areas Physical requirements: Must be able to stand for long periods of time (up to 4 hours) Must be able to walk up to ¼ mile to project site locations at high elevations.
