The Opportunity
Are you looking to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world infrastructure? The City of Kirkwood is seeking a motivated Engineering Intern to join our team this summer. This isn't just a "desk job"-you will be in the field, on construction sites, and directly contributing to the safety and longevity of our city's streets and sidewalks.

Infrastructure Inspection: Perform city construction and permit inspections for asphalt and concrete projects, including streets, alleys, and sidewalks.
Traffic Safety & Vision Zero: Lead speed and traffic volume studies throughout the city. You will collect data in GIS to help shape future traffic-calming elements and support our commitment to the Vision Zero safety initiative.
Engineering Design & Drafting: Assist in preparing engineering plans, graphic charts, and exhibits.
Project Management: Track and document construction quantities and maintain vital project records.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking a detail-oriented student who is ready to get their boots on the ground.
Education: Completion of sophomore year in a Civil Engineering or related program is preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) is required. Familiarity with CADD or GIS is a significant plus.
Knowledge: An understanding of construction materials (concrete/asphalt) and basic survey principles.
Communication: The ability to follow complex instructions and build effective working relationships with city staff and contractors.
Requirements: Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to perform field work in various outdoor conditions.
Why Kirkwood?

The City of Kirkwood is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
