Position Description
This position will assist in the areas of construction material testing, surveying, project design, roadway maintenance, and field observation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist engineering staff and surveyors with preliminary project surveys, construction staking, and public land surveys.
- Perform field testing and/or observations of construction materials, including concrete, bituminous, and aggregates.
- Communicate with engineers, project managers, clients, and contractors.
- Report field test results.
- Maintain equipment in clean working order.
- Assist maintenance crews with routine projects.
- Assist in replacement of roadway signs.
Qualifications and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent or graduate by June 1st of the current year.
- Computer experience including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel or similar computer programs.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Successfully pass a pre-placement screen, contingent upon a job offer.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge: Occupational hazards and safety procedures of the work. Surveying methods. Specialized equipment used in performance of duties assigned. Road maintenance and traffic control devices. Adhere to all laws, statutes, policies and rules with the essential level of confidentiality and safety required of the position.
- Skills: Proficient in using automated systems relevant to the position. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, accuracy, and problem solving. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all stakeholders relevant to the position.
- Abilities: Perform manual labor for extended periods of time, often under unfavorable weather conditions. Organize work efficiently and effectively. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Follow established procedures and directives from supervisors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or completed a 2- or 4-year Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering/Management or Survey Program.
- Experience or education in the civil engineering or land survey field, with a math background.
- Previous experience in the construction industry and/or aggregate materials testing.
