Job Description

Do you want to change how the world creates?

At Formlabs, we’re building the tools that make it possible for anyone to bring their ideas to life, from cutting-edge products to life-saving medical devices. Our 3D printing technology powers innovation at more than 50,000 industry leaders worldwide, including Apple, Google, Tesla, New Balance, and NASA. Together, we’re helping everyone design, prototype, and manufacture faster than ever before.

We’re a team of hands-on builders, engineers, and innovators reinventing how the world makes physical things. If you’re ready to shape the future of fabrication, come build it with us.

R&D at Formlabs

Join a dynamic R&D team, comprising top-tier mechatronics, software and systems engineers. We’re a collaborative group driven by innovation and great product development to develop the Formlabs printing process and bring transformative products to market.

Your Impact

At Formlabs, we’re constantly iterating on our products and building new prototypes. As the Engineering Project Manager, you’ll work across engineering teams to bring these prototypes to life, and once they’re built, ensure they are maintained and used effectively. You’ll also work closely with the mechanical engineering team to support the complexities of developing hardware such as managing BOMs, inventory, and product configurations. This is a high-visibility role which requires you to motivate peers to drive results.

What You’ll Do

  • Be the glue to pull cross-functional teams together to hit key milestones and goals through the product development process.
  • Manage (in conjunction with the Global Sourcing team) the Bill of Materials for our products, making sure it is up to date and usable for ordering, cost analysis, and tracking development status.
  • Push ECOs through the release process and make sure they are implemented in a controlled manner.
  • Develop spaces for builds including workspace, tools, shelving for inventory, and finished goods.
  • Manage inventory for prototype and integration builds including receiving parts, managing incoming quality control, stocking parts, and prepping for builds.
  • Ensure that prototype builds happen smoothly and as quickly as possible. Run daily standups or other methods of work tracking and motivation to make sure builds remain unblocked.
  • Organize and plan work. Motivate team members. Track progress and issues. Communicate with stakeholders and close out issues.
  • Manage the configuration of our fleet of prototype printers. Maintain an up to date inventory of prototype printers, their configuration, status and use. Ensure that reworks and retrofits happen quickly and successfully.
  • Improve processes across mechanical engineering to support the smooth development of products.
  • Broadly support the mechanical engineering team and mechanical engineering manager as project manager embedded in that team.

About You:

  • Demonstrated motivation to bring amazing products to life by pushing yourself, your peers, and the development process forward.
  • Consistent and organized to make sure we’re doing everything we can to succeed.
  • Jump into building parts and prototypes to lead by example and fill gaps as needed.
  • Can jump between organizing data to organizing people and back during the course of a day.
  • A working knowledge of technical documentation and the desire to keep learning in this area.
  • Build bridges between team leads and key doers on teams to quickly solve problems and blockages.
  • Depth in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or integration software.
  • Strong data analysis and spreadsheet skills.

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience releasing mechanical designs to vendors and owning a Bill of Materials
  • Experience running prototype builds of hardware products
  • Proficiency in CAD (especially Onshape)
  • Experience with PLM systems

Our Benefits & Perks:

  • Robust equity program to build future wealth through RSUs
  • Comprehensive healthcare coverage (Medical, Dental, Vision)
  • 401K matching and access to financial advisors
  • Generous paid Parental Leave (up to 16 weeks)
  • Tenure-based paid Sabbatical Leave (up to 6 weeks)
  • Flexible Out of Office Plan – Take time when you need it
  • Ample on-site parking & pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Healthy on-site lunches, snacks, beverages, & treats
  • Regular sponsored professional development opportunities
  • Many opt-in culture events across our diverse community
  • And of course… unlimited 3D prints

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company.  We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
