Job Description

Johnson Service Group is looking for a Engineering Student Intern for a client in San Jose. This internship provides exposure to real-world engineering, construction management, and environmental compliance practices across multiple active project locations.Responsibilities:
  • Provide design and engineering support for ongoing construction activities*
  • Assist with review and tracking of Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and change orders*
  • Observe and learn construction inspection processes alongside  inspectors*
  • Support project documentation and coordination efforts across multiple job sites*
  • Collaborate with the Project Regulatory Compliance Officer to understand and support environmental permitting and compliance requirements*
  • Gain familiarity with flood control infrastructure, including channel widening/deepening, underground box culverts, and storm drain systems*
  • Assist with coordination related to utility relocations and roadway improvements*
  • Learn about native habitat restoration efforts, including the installation and maintenance of approximately 15,000 riparian plants*
  • Become familiar with operations at the temporary plant nursery located at the South County Maintenance Yard in San Martin
Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field*
  • Basic first-year knowledge of engineering coursework and fundamental principles*
  • Basic understanding of survey practices, including math skills to prepare quantity take-offs*
  • Basic computer skills utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint*
  • Must possess a CA driver’s license.*
  • Some experience working in a team environment*
  • Strong interest in construction, infrastructure, and environmental compliance*
  • Strong organizational and communication skills*
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a field environment*
  • Committed to showing up on time and completing assigned tasks in a timely manner*
  • Willingness to travel between multiple project sites within the project area
