Confidential Engineering Technician – Automation & Controls
Location: Omaha, NE, Compensation: $57,000–$70,000 + Benefits
A growing manufacturer of engineered agricultural and industrial equipment is seeking an Engineering Technician to support automation and controls for complex equipment systems. This is a hands-on technical role working with Production, Engineering, Service, Sales, and customers to troubleshoot equipment, support Engineered-to-Order (ETO) systems, and improve existing products.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with electrical control panels, PLC and HMI program analysis, electrical schematics, and industrial equipment troubleshooting. Responsibilities
- Support Production, Service, Sales, and customers with automation and controls-related issues.
- Ensure ETO control packages properly integrate with mechanical equipment and system requirements.
- Diagnose customer and production equipment issues to determine whether problems are controls, electrical, or hardware related.
- Analyze and troubleshoot PLC programs, including digital and analog I/O.
- Navigate and troubleshoot equipment HMI interfaces.
- Troubleshoot control panels, field devices, and related control hardware.
- Read, develop, and interpret electrical schematics.
- Support VFD troubleshooting and parameter setup.
- Research and recommend solutions for customer field and controls issues.
- Provide clear, step-by-step technical troubleshooting instructions.
- Partner with Development Engineering to incorporate customer feedback and improve existing equipment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives involving controls, equipment reliability, and product performance.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with industrial automation, electrical controls, or manufacturing equipment.
- Experience with PLCs, HMIs, electrical control panels, and schematics.
- Ability to understand and troubleshoot PLC programs and digital/analog I/O.
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with VFDs and parameter setup, or the technical aptitude to learn.
- Ability to independently diagnose equipment issues and develop practical solutions.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with customers.
- Experience with agricultural equipment, grain handling/drying systems, industrial machinery, or engineered equipment is a plus.
