Job Summary:

The NPI Engineering Technician will play a critical role in supporting the development and launch of new gimbal products at Teledyne FLIR. This position works closely with Product Design Engineering, Qualification, Quality, and Manufacturing Engineering teams to build and refine electromechanical and optomechanical prototypes, support LRIP production, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is hands-on, self-motivated, and capable of identifying and resolving manufacturability issues to ensure smooth transitions from design to production.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support prototype builds for complex electromechanical and optomechanical assemblies in close

coordination with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams

  • Manage LRIP (Low-Rate Initial Production) line activities including scheduling, line setup, resource

coordination, and performance tracking.

  • Maintain and oversee line assets including specialized tools, fixtures, and equipment necessary for

prototype and early production phases.

  • Implement and maintain 5S standards, promoting workplace efficiency, organization, and safety.
  • Own and execute moderate-level work instruction updates, ensuring production documentation remains current and accurate.
  • Participate in design reviews to support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) efforts, providing firsthand feedback on manufacturability issues and improvement opportunities.
  • Identify and document production issues, tooling limitations, and component fit/function concerns for review with engineering teams.
  • Provide hands-on build support, troubleshooting, and rework during prototype and initial production

phases.

  • Collaborate across functions to drive continuous improvement in processes, product quality, and cycle time.
  • Work independently, taking ownership of tasks with minimal supervision and driving issues to closure.

Job Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in a technician role supporting NPI, prototype, or LRIP

environments.

  • Direct experience working with electromechanical and/or optomechanical assemblies is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tools, fixtures, and equipment in a production or prototype setting.
  • Experience leading and sustaining 5S and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Skilled in reviewing and updating technical work instructions and related documentation.
  • Familiarity with DFM principles and participation in design reviews to provide production-focused

feedback.

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills; able to document, communicate, and escalate issues clearly.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with ERP and PLM systems (e.g., Agile) is a plus.
  • Highly self-driven, proactive, and capable of managing workload independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
