Job Description
The Engineering Technician II supports our Hickory, NC based engineering teams in the design, build, integration, test, and modification of satellite communications systems and associated electromechanical hardware. This role operates in a hands-on lab and production environment, working from schematics, drawings, and documented procedures to support prototype and production-level systems.
This position is ideal for a technician with strong fundamentals across electrical, mechanical, and test disciplines who is ready to operate in a regulated Aerospace & Defense environment.
YOUR DAY TO DAY INCLUDES:
- Support engineering activities including design support, test, checkout, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype and production electromechanical systems.
- Build, troubleshoot, test, repair, and modify electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies, subsystems, and systems.
- Conduct calibration, alignment, adjustment, and diagnostic testing on a variety of hardware and test equipment.
- Operate standard lab equipment (DMM, oscilloscope, spectrum/network analyzer, power supplies).
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on lab and test systems.
- Construct basic tooling and fixtures to support unique engineering tasks.
- Implement process improvements and document experimental results under guidance of senior engineers or technicians.
- Work from schematics, engineering drawings, and written/verbal instructions.
- Use hand and power tools to assemble, disassemble, and modify hardware.
- Document test results and report data in prescribed formats.
- Interface cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.
YOU ARE THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THIS JOB IF YOU HAVE:
- S. Citizenship required and ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
- Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or related field or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 2-5 years of experience in a technical lab, manufacturing test, or engineering support role.
- Fundamental knowledge of:
- Electronic and electro-mechanical systems
- Soldering and hardware assembly
- General lab/test equipment
- Mechanical fabrication and basic tooling
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and engineering drawings.
- Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to follow structured procedures.
- Comfortable working under general supervision in a regulated environment.
Preferred / Conditional Requirements
- J-STD Solder Certification (or ability to obtain).
- Experience in Aerospace, Defense, RF, SatCom, or high-reliability electronics.
- Familiarity with calibration processes and documentation.
- Prior Military Comms background.
Work Environment
- Onsite lab and production environment.
- Hands-on hardware role supporting mission-critical systems.
- May require extended hours during test campaigns or integration phases.
