Job Description
Saalex is seeking an Engineering Technician in Oxnard, CA/Santa Cruz Island, CA. Saalex is an Engineering and Information Technology Services company with a focus on Test Range Operations and Management, Engineering and Logistics Services, Data Analytics and Business Intelligence Services and Information Technology Services.
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $32.85/hour

Essential Functions:
- Monitor, service, and calibrate diverse electronic, mechanical, and ground equipment systems
- Develop and maintain technical data and documentation, including maintenance procedures, technical manuals, troubleshooting guides, and drawings
- Support test and evaluation, system checkout, and certification activities, including verification of off-site systems
- Provide customer-facing support for system installation, testing, and fabrication activities
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment (e.g., bulldozers, graders, backhoes) for road grading, erosion control, and site maintenance
- Perform facilities maintenance, including basic plumbing, electrical troubleshooting, and structural repairs
- Maintain logs, records, and databases for generators, fleet vehicles, and inventory tracking
- Manage hazardous materials (HAZMAT) in accordance with environmental and safety requirements
- Ensure compliance with environmental, military, and safety regulations, maintaining organized records and documentation
- Other duties as assigned or required
Required:
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues independently in a remote environment
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining heavy equipment (e.g., bulldozers, graders, backhoes)
- Strong written, verbal, and analytical communication skills for interfacing with military and civilian stakeholders
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote, multi-disciplinary role
Desired:
- Experience supporting remote or austere environments
- Experience with HAZMAT handling and environmental compliance requirements
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance systems and lifecycle documentation
- Experience working with DoD or military customers
Education/Experience:
- Vocational or technical training beyond high school or equivalent military training required
- Minimum 7 years of directly related experience
Security Clearance:
Must be eligible to obtain a Secret clearance. Requirements to obtain a clearance include US Citizenship, security investigation, etc.
Working Conditions:
- Work schedule consists of 8 consecutive 10-hour workdays onsite followed by 6 days off
- 100% ofon-site work is performed at Santa Cruz Island (remote environment)
- Employees are required to remain on the island for the full 8-day work rotation (no off-island travel during shift), but are Not on call 24/7 — responsibilities are limited to scheduled working hours
- Lodging is provided in on-site barracks accommodations during the work rotation
- Requires 2-hour ferry transit to and from the island at the start and end of each rotation
- Frequent lifting (up to 50 lbs) and extended periods of standing, walking on uneven terrain, and exposure to outdoor environmental conditions
