Job Summary

Under limited supervision, manages the English Language Arts (ELA) program which includes the supervision of ELA staff. Duties and responsibilities include providing leadership and coordination in the development and implementation of the statewide standards in English Language Arts. The English Language Arts Program Manager will perform duties and responsibilities in accordance with state law, and State Board Rules for ELA, and the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) vision, mission, and goals via the Strategic Plan.

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

• Aligning curriculum initiatives from different divisions and programs and developing and fostering effective relationships with DOE divisions, local educational agencies, Regional Educational Service Agencies, ELA Advisory Council members, and other education entities to encourage collaboration, effective communication, and implementation of program goals
• The ELA Program Manager will work with staff and the ELA Advisory Committee to plan, schedule, and organize ELA professional learning activities, which includes the statewide standards for teachers, school and district administrators, and staff from Regional Educational Service Agencies (RESAs)
• Responsible for working in collaboration with stakeholders to develop and refine ELA resources, including electronic and web-based resources and materials to support the teaching and learning of the statewide ELA standards
• Coordinating, developing, scheduling and facilitating web-based and face-to-face professional learning activities
• Developing, interpreting, and communicating program plans, guidelines for implementation, and benchmarks for success
• Evaluating and monitoring the effectiveness of all formats for professional learning
• Planning and providing technical assistance and services to local educational agencies and/or state schools
• Developing budgets and supervising the disbursement of program funds.
• Articulating policies/plans to local educational agencies and/or state schools.
• Manage contracts for support services related to the planning, development, and implementation of the statewide standards and other ELA initiatives
• Maintain knowledge of current research
• Analyzing and documenting results of initiatives and making recommendations for enhanced delivery of services

Note: Extensive, in-person statewide travel required.

Submit a copy of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) professional educator

certification. Applicants who fail to submit the required documentation will not be considered.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have or be eligible for Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) professional educator’s certification; a Master’s degree in education, education administration English Language Arts, or a closely related field and ten (10) years of experience in education as a K12 educator including a minimum of three (3) years of professional-level English Language Arts classroom experience and seven (7) years of experience as a school leader, district leader, and/or RESA level ELA experience; and excellent writing, verbal, and data analysis skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctorate in K-12 education, K-12 educational administration, or a related field
• Experience in managing online web-based resources and professional learning delivery models · Experience in K-12 ELA at the school, district, or state level · Knowledge of and experience with the statewide ELA standards ·
• Knowledge of English Language Arts and literacy instruction for K-12 students
• Experience developing and providing professional learning both in electronic and face-to-face formats
• Experience in managing educational budgets · Experience managing and accessing online resources
• Experience managing educational contracts and grants · Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in education, administration, public administration, or a related administrative field in the area of assignment from an accredited college or university, L-5 certification, and two (2) years of program management experience in an educational setting.
