GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. is currently seeking an Entry level Ecologist to support wetland delineations and assessments, botanical surveys, soils investigations, wildlife and aquatic habitat evaluations, faunal surveys, GIS/GPS mapping tasks, construction observations, and environmental permitting. Come join our growing Ecology and Planning Practice in Springfield, Massachusetts. The qualified individual will deepen their prior experience in one or more of the following practice areas: renewable energy, flood protection/dams, ecological restoration, climate resiliency, airport/highways, and/or site development.

What You Will Be Doing:
- Supporting and leading wetland delineations and evaluations, botanical surveys, soils investigations, wildlife and aquatic habitat evaluations, faunal surveys, site reconnaissance, inspections, and explorations, sampling, GPS surveying, and construction observations.
- Preparing reports based upon field studies.
- Preparing GIS maps.
- Preparing permit applications.
- Participating in regulatory agency meetings.
- Occasional travel within southern New England is expected.
- GZA emphasizes a One Company environment, and as a member of our team, you may be asked to assist on projects and tasks outside of your primary responsibilities.
What You Will Be Bringing:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Geosciences, or a related discipline. Master’s degree a plus.
- 0-5 years of experience in the environmental consulting or environmental agency field.
- A desire to gain knowledge and experience and seek applicable professional certification(s) such as PWS, CWB, CESSWI, and/or CPESC.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to prepare project permit applications and technical reports.
- Experience with and/or desire to become proficient at Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, Chapter 91, MESA, Section 401 and Section 404 permitting.
- Ability to interpret and use site plans, topographic maps, aerial photographs, and other mapping resources.
- Working knowledge of GIS.
The base salary for this position may range between $67,000 to $92,100. The actual base salary and total compensation will depend on many factors, including location, candidate experience, education, professional licensure, and other qualifications.
