Job Overview

Komatsu is hiring an Entry‑Level EHS Specialist in Salt Lake City, UT, and we're open to candidates who are ready to grow into the role-with training, mentorship, and hands‑on learning provided.

This is a great opportunity for someone currently working in an administrative assistant, coordinator, office support, or similar role within a mining, construction, or heavy‑equipment environment who wants to move into EHS. If you already understand how job sites operate and enjoy supporting people, processes, and compliance, we can help you build the technical EHS skills.

You'll support Environmental Health & Safety programs for our western U.S. heavy equipment dealerships, working closely with employees, managers, and field teams to promote safe, compliant workplaces.

This role is based in our Salt Lake City office with 25-50% planned travel across Utah, Nevada, and Wyoming.

What You'll Do (With Training & Support)

You'll start by supporting experienced EHS professionals and gradually take on more responsibility as you build expertise.

  • Help implement and support EHS policies and procedures
  • Assist with safety training coordination, scheduling, and delivery
  • Participate in site visits, inspections, audits, and facility walk‑throughs
  • Document observations, corrective actions, and follow‑ups
  • Attend daily operational lineouts to stay connected to field activity
  • Support reporting, recordkeeping, and compliance documentation
  • Serve as a helpful EHS resource to field and office teams
  • Respond to occasional after‑hours safety needs (not routine)

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Lead EHS policies, procedures, and best management practices.

  • Analyze, document, and communicate corrective actions

  • Provide technical guidance, education, and mentoring to managers, supervisors, and employees.

  • Attend daily lineouts with operations teams

  • Conduct inspections, audits, facility walk‑throughs, and hazard assessments

  • Schedule and deliver established training programs including:

  • Fall Protection

  • Working at Heights

  • Critical Risk Training

  • Cardinal Rules

  • New Hire Training

  • Stormwater Pollution Prevention

  • Environmental compliance

  • Serve as a resource to field teams and respond to occasional after-hours safety calls

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Experience working in or supporting mining, sand and gravel, or construction operations (administrative or field exposure both welcome)
  • Interest in building a career in Environmental Health & Safety
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% (planned, with advance notice)
  • Comfortable working in office, shop/warehouse, and mine‑site environments
  • Strong communication, organization, and follow‑through skills

Previous EHS, MSHA/Part 46/48, OSHA, EPA or safety experience is helpful but not required-we will provide training for the right candidate. Apply today!

Hiring Range

At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $66,000 - $85,000. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
