NOVA Engineering & Environmental is seeking an Entry-Level Geotechnical Field Engineer to join our Kennesaw, Georgia office. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent or upcoming engineering graduate who wants to build a career in geotechnical consulting and gain experience across the full project lifecycle.

In this role, you won't be limited to one area of geotechnical engineering. You'll gain hands-on experience with subsurface investigations, soil and rock classification, field testing, engineering analysis, technical report writing, and proposal development while working alongside experienced engineers and Professional Engineers.

You'll support a wide variety of projects and clients, giving you the opportunity to see how geotechnical recommendations influence the design and construction of real-world projects. As your technical skills and experience grow, you'll have opportunities to take on greater responsibility in engineering analysis, project coordination, client communication, proposal development, and eventually project management.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in and help coordinate geotechnical field investigations for a variety of development and construction projects.
  • Observe drilling operations and document subsurface conditions encountered during field investigations.
  • Perform soil, rock, and geological classifications using samples obtained during drilling and exploration activities.
  • Operate and maintain geotechnical field testing and investigation equipment.
  • Prepare field documentation, boring logs, and other records associated with geotechnical investigations.
  • Review field and laboratory data and assist with engineering calculations and geotechnical analyses under the direction of a Professional Engineer.
  • Assist with developing geotechnical recommendations for project design and construction.
  • Help prepare geotechnical engineering reports that summarize subsurface conditions, engineering analyses, findings, and recommendations.
  • Assist project managers with developing project proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and cost estimates.
  • Communicate and coordinate with clients, drillers, contractors, project managers, laboratory personnel, and other members of the project team.
  • Gain exposure to both the technical and business sides of consulting engineering, from the initial proposal through field investigation and final engineering report.
  • Follow established safety procedures, guidelines, and standards for all field and office activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or similar degree is required

  • 0 - 3 years applicable experience (willing to accept entry-level applicants)

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT/EI) certification or ability to obtain within three months of employment.

  • Interest in developing a career in geotechnical engineering and consulting.

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability and willingness to work primarily in a field environment while developing office-based engineering and technical writing experience.

  • Valid driver's license with the ability to pass a background check and MVR report

Field Experience:

This is a field-focused position, particularly during the early stages of your career. Approximately 90% of the initial work will involve field assignments, providing valuable hands-on exposure to drilling operations, soil and rock conditions, field testing, and active project sites.

As you gain experience, the position provides opportunities to expand your involvement in engineering analysis, geotechnical report preparation, proposals, project coordination, and client communication, building the skills needed to progress within geotechnical consulting.
