JOB TITLE: Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

Official Title: NA.US.NAC.WM - Safety.EHS Specialist

Reports To: V.P., Chem-Aqua Operations and Services

JOB SUMMARY

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator is responsible for supporting and maintaining environmental, health, and safety programs across four NAC facilities. This role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations while driving a culture of safety and continuous improvement. The position is based in Macon, GA and requires regular travel to other sites.

RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

  • Maintain, implement, and update safety policies and environmental procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local regulatory requirements across four (4) facilities. 30% of time involved

  • Participate in the investigation of incidents, near misses and property damage incidents. Ensure follow-up is done to minimize future exposure and proper records/documents are maintained. 15% of time involved

  • Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, waste handling, correct handing techniques for chemical, toxins, equipment and other materials. 20% of time involved

  • Maintain accurate safety and environmental files, logs, and documentation. 10% of time involved

  • Conduct routine inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective or preventive measures. Follow up to ensure actions are completed. 15% of time involved

  • Maintain internal and regulatory reporting, including data collection for air, stormwater, and surface water discharge. 5% of time

  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies during inspections and for city permitting and reporting related to water, waste, and other regulated activities. 5% of time

  • Stay current on changes to environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

  • Promote and reinforce a safe work environment for all employees.
  • Participate in manufacturing and operations meetings to address safety and compliance topics.
  • Build effective working relationships with Operations, Managers, Supervisors, and employees.
  • Keep the Operations Manager informed of EHS matters and emerging issues.
  • Support special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • 1-3 years of related EHS experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including presenting to groups.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals).
  • Ability to interpret written, oral, and diagram instructions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with local regulatory agencies preferred.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Up to 25% travel required to support other facilities.
  • Ability to work off-hours or be on call as needed.
  • Demonstrated skills in problem solving, decision making, planning, and organization.

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION

  • High school diploma required; additional EHS-related training or certifications preferred.
  • One to three years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Primarily office-based with periodic work in warehouse or industrial environments.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning, and lifting may be required.
