Job Description

The Facility Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Lead plays a pivotal role in shaping and sustaining a culture grounded in an unwavering commitment to safety and environmental compliance. This leader will champion a zero-injury mindset by driving the design, implementation, and continuous evolution of critical safety programs-including Serious Injury & Fatality (SIF) prevention-while ensuring all EHS processes and practices meet the highest standards.

This role is both strategic and hands-on, focused on proactively identifying, eliminating, and controlling hazards to protect employees, assets, and the environment. By leveraging best practices, data-driven analysis, and behavior-based safety principles, the EHS Lead will inspire engagement at every level of the organization and help build a world-class safety culture.

As a key member of the site leadership (steering) team, the EHS Lead acts as a trusted advisor, subject matter expert, and coach-partnering across the business to solve complex safety challenges, drive innovation in hazard identification, and elevate overall site capability.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership & Risk Management

  • Drive a proactive safety culture by identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across all operations, including manufacturing processes, equipment, and materials
  • Lead formal risk assessments and continuously update them to reflect operational changes and evolving standards
  • Investigate all incidents-including near misses and workers' compensation cases-ensuring thorough root cause analysis and effective corrective actions

Program Development & Compliance

  • Lead the development and enhancement of Critical Safety Foundations and SIF programs
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all federal, state, and local regulations
  • Oversee environmental reporting and maintain accurate documentation and EHS records
  • Manage Safety Data Sheet (SDS) systems and ensure proper accessibility and compliance

Training, Engagement & Culture Building

  • Deliver impactful training on EHS awareness, emergency response, evacuation, and safe work practices
  • Ensure 100% completion of training programs and verified competency across the workforce
  • Coach and mentor employees and leaders, reinforcing accountability and empowering individuals to stop unsafe work
  • Champion the Safety Committee and support cross-functional engagement

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with site leadership to develop and execute EHS action plans aligned to strategic goals
  • Participate in Lean initiatives such as Kaizen, 5S, and Six Sigma to integrate safety into operational excellence
  • Drive ergonomics and wellness programs to reduce injuries and enhance employee well-being
  • Support product innovation by evaluating EHS risks in collaboration with Product Stewardship teams

Communication & Influence

  • Maintain a visible leadership presence on the floor to reinforce safe behaviors
  • Communicate EHS metrics, trends, and insights using dashboards and reporting tools
  • Influence and engage stakeholders across all levels to drive accountability and continuous improvement

Key Success Metrics

  • Recordable Incident Rate (RIR)
  • Audit performance for SIF programs and Safety Foundations
  • Reduction of internal audit findings
  • Timeliness and accuracy of environmental reporting

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field
  • 5+ years of EHS leadership experience in a manufacturing environment (hands-on floor presence required)

Preferred

  • ASP or CSP certification
  • OSHA 500 series training

Experience & Expertise

  • Proven success implementing and managing EHS programs in manufacturing environments
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and applicable state regulations
  • Experience driving compliance programs and influencing behavioral change

Work Environment

This is a full-time, onsite role based at a manufacturing facility, working Monday-Friday. Occasional domestic travel (up to 10%) may be required.
