Job Description

SUMMARYThis role will be divided between two safety professionals managing two territories, a total of 8 locations. The territories consist of Group #1 – Oakmont, Valencia, Jackson and Allentown and Group #2 – Oconomowoc, Franklin Park, Woodstock and Whittier (LA). It will be the responsibility of the EHS Manager to ensure the safety for all employees, visitors, and contractors through compliance with local, state and federal regulatory agencies, environmental laws, regulations and standards as well as company specific safety guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and evaluate occupational health, safety and environmental conditions and practices in the workplace.
  • Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices
  • Provide advice and counsel concerning all city, state, and federal compliance regulations
  • Develop and implement controls for identified hazards.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies and procedures and recommend
  • changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate work place accidents and injuries.
  • Compile, analyze, interpret and report accident, loss, and exposure statistical data; prepare comprehensive
  • recommendations for corrective action to eliminate or minimize potential hazards.
  • Direct environmental compliance programs related to hazardous wastes, air, water pollution control, and community right-to-know programs.
  • Recommend the purchase of safety equipment and supplies.
  • Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures.
  • Report and provide review of findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Reporting of annual TIER II's, Form R's, Residual, OSHA 300 log and Biennial Reports.
  • Maintain SDS inventory and updates
  • Update Top Screen reports to Department of Homeland Security
  • Maintain hazardous and non-hazardous waste in compliance with local and state regulations
  • Conduct all Industrial hygiene related testing for the facility to ensure healthy working conditions
  • Daily safety conscious work effort. Notify management of any work-related injuries, safety concerns and(or) near miss incident(s)
  • Must have a willingness and flexibility to adapt to changing business needs, schedule and deadlines and perform other essential duties as assigned in support of operational success
  • Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct the development and execution of specialized safety and environmental education and training materials
  • Provide and coordinate new employee occupational health, safety and environmental orientation with each plant's management team and Safety Champions.
  • Work with and through plant safety committees to bolster employee engagement in safety initiatives
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to manage Workers Compensation, injury support, and bill pay
  • Be responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly personal work area
  • Participate in all continuous improvement programs by offering suggestions and initiatives in areas within direct control
  • Comply with state and federal law safety regulations in addition to health, safety and security procedures.
  • Adhere to company policies and state and federal laws and regulations relating to employment, including promoting a workplace free of discrimination and harassment

COMPETENCIES/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of OSHA General Industry standards
  • Understanding of EPA and state equivalent regulation regarding Air and Waste Regulations.
  • Ability to analyze data, track metrics, and implement strategies for improvement
  • Computer skills required especially Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to successfully pass a post-offer background check, physical and drug screen
  • Exhibits independent thinking and sound judgment, accompanied by proven problem solving
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with team members and managers/supervisors
  • Excellent time management with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree in Industrial Safety, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental Sciences with 3 – 5 years of EH&S management/coordination experience required.

The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. The employee is regularly required to communicate effectively; have the ability to walk, stand for long periods, climb ladders/scaffolds, and traverse uneven terrain during site inspections. They must often lift/carry up to 50 lbs., work in extreme temperatures or confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, safety toe boot/shoe and a respirator
