JOB OVERVIEW:
The EHS Specialist supports the manufacturing facility by assisting the EHS Manager in implementing, monitoring, and improving environmental, health, and safety programs. This role helps ensure regulatory compliance, reduces workplace risks, promotes safe behaviors, and drives continuous improvement in environmental and safety performance across the plant. The EHS Specialist Exhibits exceptional verbal and written communication skills, has demonstrated an understanding of applicable laws and regulations and an ability to apply the requirements to Company Environmental & Safety programs. Supports key E&S programs as assigned. Emphasis will be in the management of safety policies and procedures, management of hazardous waste and materials, and emergency preparedness/response. Works independently or as a team member as directed by supervisor.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides daily environmental and safety oversight and reports concerns with leadership
- Maintains log of daily activities related to environmental and safety related actions
- Perform daily walk-through of all production areas identifying and correcting EH&S deficiencies
- Takes timely action to correct or report EH&S concerns
- Support the EH&S Manager in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Assist in managing permits, record keeping and reporting
- Conduct environmental inspections, sampling, and monitoring activities
- Assist in coordination of proper hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage, labeling, and disposal
- Maintain environmental reports and documentation
- Conduct visual inspections of hazardous waste storage areas
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments; reporting findings to EH&S Manager
- Support compliance with OSHA standards and Company safety policies
- Assist in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions
- Participate in machine safety and ergonomic reviews and prepare job hazard analysis
- Help develop and deliver EH&S training programs
- Maintain accurate training records, SDS files, and compliance documentation
- Assist in maintaining emergency response plans, conducting drills, and ensuring readiness
- Identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact, improve safety performance, and support sustainability efforts
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- Ability to use Microsoft Suite
- Auditing, risk assessments, and inspections
- Incident investigations and root cause analysis
- Industrial hygiene fundamentals
- Technical writing and data analysis and reporting
- Emergency preparedness and response
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to read, write and understand English
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, or related field is preferred
- 1 - 3 years of EH&S experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, RCRA, CAA, and hazardous waste regulations
- Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills
- Preferred certifications:
- OSHA 30
- HAZWOPER (24/40 hr)
- First Aid / CPR
- DOT Hazardous Materials
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT (if applicable):
- The employee may be frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles
- The employee may be exposed to confined spaces while working on machines
- The employee is regularly required to stand and walk for long periods of time.
- The employee may be required to stand, sit, crouch, walk and bend/conform in uncomfortable positions for varying periods of time
- Will be required to use vision including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs. and regularly lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
