Job Description

The full scope of the role will be the site lead for all aspects of Safety and Environmental Compliance.  The managed risk will be to utilize safety data collected and move the site to proactive safety management.

Key Activities/Responsibilities

1.                 Maps, schedules and conducts regular safety audits of the plant to ensure compliance with Elgin and Federal Signal Corporation environmental, health and safety policies.  The map, audit schedule and execution of corrective actions need to align with embed into standard operation compliance tools like the site 5S and Tier Accountability programs.

2.                 Lead root cause corrective action discussions with employees and site leadership utilizing key problem-solving tools (5 Why, Fish Bone, 8D, etc.) appropriate for the size and impact of safety or environmental non-conformance.  Actions must be tracked at the associated Tier board and audits of effectiveness of each solution need to be included in the audit schedule.

3.                 Develops, revises and maintains all safety, environmental, health programs, policies and training (such as lockout/tag out, forklift, HAZ/COM, ergonomics, PPE, emergency response, respirators, confined space, ISO 14000 Environmental and others) to ensure consistency and compliance to local, state and federal regulations (including OSHA, EPA, NFPA, Storm water, and other environmental records)    

4.                 Manage, coordinate and execute EHS training to all current employees to ensure compliance to existing policies. Conduct EHS training for all new hires during the employee orientation.

5.                 Review, develop, and audit all EHS programs and policies to ensure the programs are compliant with the latest Elgin, Federal Signal Corporation, local, state, and government environmental, health and safety policies.

6.                 Oversee and ensure effectiveness of the investigation of all safety related incidents. Take full responsibility for the completion of all investigation documentation including the initial incident report and final report out to site, Elgin, and Federal Signal leadership.  This includes full responsibility and execution of the root cause corrective action process and the compliance audits that follow to ensure causes of safety, environmental and health incidents are eradicated.

7.                 Manage and execute the Workers’ Compensation process and site’s Return-to-Work program, all in alignment and agreement with HR leadership.

8.                 Manage, coordinate and execute periodic local, state and federal EHS inspections.  Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure proper personnel in place to perform tasks as needed to comply with expectations of outside auditors. (Ergonomic evaluation will be a part of the safety audits referenced in point 1)

9.                 Coordinates site safety committee meeting structure, oversees and coordinates safety committee processes, procedures and activities.  Maintain focus on behavioral based safety assessments to ensure the site is moving to a proactive stance on EHS controls.

10.               Primary contact for OSHA, EPA and safety related inspections.

11.               Updates and maintains material safety sheets for all chemical used at location

12.               Assist Human Resources in the organization and promotion of safety incentive contests as applicable.

13.               Maintains knowledge of latest changes, revisions and updates of all applicable OSHA, ACGIH, and NFPA regulations.

14.               Maintains safety awareness postings, bulletin boards and signage.

15.               Performs other duties, assignments, and special projects as assigned

Anticipated Salary Range: $95,000- $110,000 base plus annual incentive.
