Our Poway Quality Assurance Group has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health & Safety Techniciann to join the team. this position is responsible for ensuring life safety equipment and hazardous waste management programs remain compliant with all applicable company, local, state, and federal regulations. Supports implementation of environmental, health and safety programs. Conducts routine, periodic and special inspections to maintain life safety equipment. Reports environmental, health and safety violations or potential workplace hazards to management. Ensures proper handling and storage of hazardous waste material while inspecting locations where waste is contained. Maintains a variety of electronic and hard copy records and statistics.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures the regular inspection of work areas, life safety equipment (e.g. eye wash stations, AEDs, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, etc), and hazardous waste storage areas for company and regulatory compliance.
- Ensures routine, periodic and special inspections to life safety equipment functionality are accomplished. Ensures proper disposal and replacement of equipment when expired or depleted. Maintains related inventory and inspection logs.
- Prepares, submits, and tracks purchase requests for safety, health, or personnel protective equipment.
- Ensures proper handling, labeling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste, including satellite accumulation areas and maintains central accumulation areas at each location.
- Performs daily observance of employee work habits for compliance with environmental, health and safety practices. Ensures personal protective equipment is being used according to regulations. Provides findings and recommendations to management for review.
- Assists with Emergency Response Team (ERT) and employee training.
- Implements and monitors environmental, health and safety programs.
- Conducts facility surveys and program evaluations of facilities and operations to identify safety/environmental issues.
- Conducts follow through on closure of related action items.
- Ensures compliance with required training and participates in updating procedures and practices.
- Maintains a variety of electronic and hard copy records and statistics.
- Assists in implementation of corrective action.
- May provide guidance and direction to lower level technicians.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent and five or more years of related work experience.
- Must have a thorough understanding of environmental, health and safety policies, procedures, practices, and relevant regulations.
- Must possess a proven ability to establish priorities.
- Interpersonal skills and written communication skills to effectively interface with employees.
- The ability to accurately document and maintain records and files.
- A valid California river's license.
- The ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
