Position Title: Environmental Health & Safety Intern

Reports to: Sr. Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager

Department: Environmental Health & Safety Department

Classification: Seasonal, Hourly (Non-Exempt)

Pay: $22.50 – $23.25 an hour

The EH&S Summer Intern will support the Environmental Health & Safety Department by participating in hands‑on projects and learning experiences across multiple EH&S functions. This is a hands‑on internship designed to expose students to real‑world EH&S work while developing professional skills.

This position will be primarily responsible to:

  • Assist in day‑to‑day EH&S tasks to gain exposure to environmental compliance, workplace safety, and health programs.
  • Observe and support regulatory interactions, including learning how to communicate with local and state agencies.
  • Help with project management activities such as tracking deadlines, organizing documentation, and supporting implementation of EH&S initiatives.
  • Participate in field‑based activities, including inspections, data collection, and audits alongside EH&S team members.
  • Learn how different EH&S programs such as environmental compliance, safety, training, hazardous materials, injury prevention all interconnect to support company operations.
  • Assist with document updates, data entry, and report preparation related to EH&S programs.
  • Support the implementation of health and safety initiatives such as safety observations, incident investigations, and training events.
  • Lead a meeting or training session when opportunities arise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program, preferably in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Genuine interest in learning more about Environmental Health & Safety.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
  • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work in both office and industrial environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience with data entry, documentation, or basic project coordination.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, or other regulatory concepts (classroom knowledge acceptable).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.

Physical Requirements:

Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; rare stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires the following percentages of time committed to physical activity: 50% or more sitting, 25% or less walking, and 50% or more standing. The job is performed under occasional temperature variations and in an office environment. Unrestricted visual and audio abilities are required for the safety of all employees. The ability to lift up to 45 lbs. is required.
