The Lake County Environmental Health Department is accepting applications for:

Environmental Health Technician

Qualifications: Under the supervision of a registered sanitarian, engineer or similar professional, conducts and documents final inspections of wastewater treatment systems and inspections of public water supplies; Implements provisions of the Montana Motor Vehicle Recycling and Disposal law; Administer/proctor wastewater treatment system installer exams; Provide administrative support for Certified Food Protection Manager trainings including becoming an examination proctor; Investigates, documents, and resolves general sanitarian complaints; Provides environmental health information to the public; Provides administrative support as necessary; Performs other duties as assigned; Theories, principles and practices of public and environmental health; Federal, state and local laws and regulations related to the public and environmental health; Computer software relating to creation of documents, databases, presentations, drafting software skills is useful; Understand and apply fundamentals related to public health and environmental health; Understand and apply laws and regulations related to public health and environmental health; Thoroughly investigate, document, and report environmental health situations and complaints; Thoroughly research county files and land records; Document research and investigative findings; Follow written and oral instructions; Participate in occasional evening or weekend meetings and assignments; Keep confidential matters confidential; Travel for training conferences and other related activities; Prefer prior experience working with the public in potentially confrontational situations; Prefer general familiarity with land documents and property document research; Prefer minimum of two years' experience in administrative assistant or clerical work;

Duties: Must have the ability to sit for extended periods, bend or use step stools to reach files, and access the general courthouse, office and plat room environments. Must have the ability to use office equipment with efficiency and proficiency. Must be able to drive to various locations up to 15,000 miles per year; may crouch, kneel, bend at the knees and waist to make observations; during inspections may handle, finger, grasp and manipulate to conduct tests; may use tools or equipment weighing 15 – 20 lbs; will walk over uneven or steep ground; will be exposed to various weather conditions. Must have a valid Montana driver's license with a driving record acceptable to Lake County and its insuring entity.

Hours/Days: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m./M-F; may work some non-office hours.

Wage: $19.77/hourly, depending on experience
