Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and interpret architectural and engineering plans, specifications, and project scopes to understand project requirements.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs for materials, labor, and equipment based on commercial project documentation.
  • Utilize estimating software and Excel to generate accurate cost estimates and bid proposals.
  • Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes and compare them against project specifications and budgets.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to clarify project details and resolve inconsistencies.
  • Develop cost breakdowns and value engineering recommendations when appropriate.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market pricing, labor rates, and construction industry trends.
  • Prepare and present detailed estimates and bid packages to clients and internal teams.
  • Assist with procurement by providing quantity and cost data to the purchasing department.
  • Support project kickoff meetings and adjust estimates as needed based on design changes or field conditions.

Role Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience as an estimator in commercial construction (office buildings, retail, industrial, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of construction materials, building systems, and trade sequencing.
  • Proficiency in reading construction documents and specifications.
  • Skilled in estimating software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Sage Estimating, or similar).
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.

Physical Demands:

This role primarily involves office-based work with extended periods of sitting while working on a computer. Occasional site visits may be required, which can include walking, standing, or climbing on uneven surfaces. Light lifting of documents, plans, or laptops may be necessary.
