We are a well‑established and respected General Contracting Company seeking an experienced
Superintendent with strong commercial construction expertise to support projects throughout New Mexico. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong communication and organizational skills who can effectively manage field operations, coordinate subcontractors, maintain schedules, enforce safety standards, and deliver high-quality results. This role requires travel, and consistent on-site leadership from project start through completion.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Superintendent plays a critical leadership role in managing day‑to‑day construction site operations for a growing commercial general contractor. This position ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in full compliance with all plans and specifications. The Superintendent serves as the primary on‑site leader, coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and inspections while supporting the Project Manager with financial tracking and closeout documentation. This role requires the ability to travel and remain on out‑of‑town project sites for multiple consecutive weeks, providing consistent on‑site leadership throughout the duration of assigned projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Include but are not limited to:
Lead field operations for commercial construction projects, including ground-up developments, tenant improvements, renovations, and other large-scale builds.
Oversee daily operations of the construction site.
Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and schedules.
Coordinate subcontractor activities to ensure productivity and compliance.
Inspect materials and workmanship to verify adherence to project requirements.
Manage jurisdictional inspections (building officials, health/fire departments, public works, owner walks).
Maintain project schedules and ensure subcontractor alignment.
Secure final inspections, certificates of occupancy, and compliance approvals.
Lead punch list issuance and completion.
Conduct weekly on-site safety meetings.
Ensure a safe workplace for employees, customers, vendors, and operators.
Enforce subcontractor adherence to safety policies and procedures.
Operate equipment such as forklifts and scissor lifts when necessary.
Assist Project Manager with financial tracking, GC costs, and change requests.
Support project closeout by compiling as-builts, warranties, and OEM manuals.
Complete daily logs by end of each business day.
Coordinate vendors and equipment.
Review and approve submittals.
Mentor field staff and promote best practices in project execution, quality control, and safety compliance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to walk through the construction site during the construction phase and review subcontractor work at the job site in varying weather conditions (i.e. heat, cold and rain)
- Ability and willingness to work night shift.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolding and navigate active construction sites for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in varying environmental conditions (heat, cold, noise, uneven terrain).
- Capability to operate equipment such as forklifts and scissor lifts when certified.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of experience as a Superintendent or in a similar field leadership role within commercial construction.
- Demonstrated experience managing ground-up commercial construction projects from site development through final turnover.
- Proven success overseeing large-scale commercial construction projects with multiple trades and complex scheduling requirements.
- Strong ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and submittals with a demonstrated understanding of architectural, structural, civil, and MEP building systems.
- Proven experience managing daily field operations, subcontractors, inspections, safety, quality control, and schedule compliance.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with owners, architects, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Proficiency with construction management software for logs, scheduling, submittals, and reporting.
- Ability to travel and remain on out-of-town project sites for multiple consecutive weeks as required.
