Job Description

Children's Home Society of Florida

Overview

Every child deserves the chance to dream big - to feel safe, supported, and surrounded by opportunity, no matter their ZIP code or circumstances. At Children's Home Society of Florida, this belief fuels our mission to build strong foundations that empower children and families. For over 124 years, we've evolved from focusing primarily on foster care and adoption to addressing the root causes that put families at risk in the first place. Today, we're leading through our groundbreaking Community Impact Model - a cradle-to-career approach that aligns resources and expands access to opportunity across entire communities. One powerful example of this model in action is our Community Partnership Schools, which are complemented by a rich ecosystem of early childhood programs, behavioral health services, and family resource centers.

We know that no solution is one size fits all. We work alongside communities to understand local needs, implement what works, and share best practices across regions. The result? Nurturing environments where every child and family has access to the opportunities they need to realize their dreams. Because when we reimagine what true community impact means, we create the foundation for every child, every dream, every future.

Each day, we become one step closer to fulfilling our vision: A world where children realize their full potential.

The Search

CHS is at an exciting inflection point in its growth as we build upon our strategic intent to disrupt intergenerational cycles of poverty and maltreatment. To assist us we are seeking a dynamic, strategic, and entrepreneurial Executive Director (ED) for the Greater Miami community.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced senior leader with a proven track record in community development and business growth to help shape our future. The ED will serve as the chief ambassador and principal account executive for CHS locally, seeking out new initiatives while developing, supporting, and leveraging community partnerships with local funding agencies and other entities to significantly increase CHS revenue and expand our impact. The successful candidate will bring a bold vision and a collaborative spirit, paired with a deep passion for our mission. They will be accountable for strategic leadership in the community, with a primary focus on financial sustainability and growth through external engagement and resource development. This is not an operational focused position. It is all about strategy, both internally and externally. Overall, the ED will help CHS amplify its mission, unlocking transformative growth that will benefit the communities we serve for years to come.

The Role

The ED will work to advance the CHS mission through community development and business growth, supporting CHS impact through strong financial positioning and top line revenue growth. While managing funding and revenue development of up to $20 million, the individual will work in partnership with other CHS leaders to facilitate the achievement of our strategic plan, while developing a local work culture and legacy through team member engagement. This important role will include vital functions to the success of CHS, such as:

  • Strategic Growth & Business Development- Achieving established goals for sustainable top line growth by strengthening local funding streams and cultivating strategic partnerships with local funding sources, such as the United Way, municipalities, community foundations, children's trusts/councils, school districts, and other nonprofit organizations.
  • Board Management & Sustainability- Cultivating, engaging, and stewarding local community advisory board members in alignment with established goals, ensuring accountability and sustainability in board leadership.
  • Advocacy & Government Affairs- Working collaboratively with our Advocacy Team to help advance the CHS legislative strategy locally, statewide, and nationally, strengthening the CHS role as a trusted advocate in advancing the wellbeing of Florida's children and families.
  • Employee Engagement & Culture Champion- Assisting in championing a culture rooted in the CHS Common Bond Values, nurturing ongoing collaborative communication, accountability, and a strong sense of belonging.
  • Community Leadership & Liaison- Serving as the trusted, visible CHS representative within the local community, acting as the "go to" resource for children and family services to connect people to opportunities and elevating the CHS mission.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will have proven results in business development, account and relationship management, fundraising, and public presentation, as well as five or more years of significant experience at the senior management level. The individual should be able to demonstrate value-add competency in:

  • Balancing empathy with action- Leading with compassion and purpose, creating an environment of hope that reflects the CHS mission.
  • Being proactive, strategic, and forward thinking- Seeing the big picture, anticipating ,and planning for exciting future of CHS.
  • Catalyzing commitment- Developing productive working relationships to accomplish organizational goals, using interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence to positively influence outcomes and results.
  • Having courage to take risks- Coping effectively with change, risk, and uncertainty, rather than clinging rigidly to business as usual.
  • Creating breakthrough results- Managing available resources effectively, driving accountability for high levels of performance.
  • Building organizational capability and culture- Using a collaborative, flexible interpersonal style to build a culture based on trust in guiding others in attaining organizational goals.
