Assistant General Manager

Salary $80K - $85K annually (experience-based compensation)

Position Summary

As Assistant General Manager, you are a driving force behind the property's success—fueling profitability while setting new benchmarks for excellence across every dimension of hospitality. You'll lead with passion and precision, championing Donohoe Hospitality Services' premium standards in total revenue growth, team empowerment & satisfaction, guest delight, and exceptional GOP performance. Supervisory Responsibilities 

This position description incorporates the core responsibilities of the job. It recognizes that other related duties not specifically mentioned might also be performed, and that not all responsibilities may be carried out depending on operational needs.

Essential Functions

  • Monitor and help manage all hotel operating expenses
  • Review guestroom inventory management to maximize guestroom/suite revenue.
  • Ensure Department Heads follow proper procedures for the selection, training, counseling, and motivation of hourly employees.
  • Hire, train, and motivate managers. Ensure that all managers do the same for their employees.
  • Monitor Guest Voice scores, especially those that do not rate the hotel at the highest rating. Have Guest Relations cases checked daily. 
  • Train and work closely with department heads to ensure focus on DHS & Hotel goals are met.
  • Assist in developing team members for higher-responsibility positions. Also, ensure that meetings are necessary, useful, and productive in the least amount of time.
  • Meet with all departments to discuss goals and progress toward them.
  • Responsible for a safe environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents to employees and guests.
  • Ensure incident reports are promptly completed in the event of an employee or guest injury, with thorough follow-up to minimize the hotel's costs and prevent future incidents.
  • Inspect various parts of the hotel daily to ensure that guestrooms, public spaces, grounds, work areas, and kitchen areas meet cleanliness standards.
  • Adhere to all work rules, procedures, and policies established by the hotel, including, but not limited to, those contained in the employee handbook.
  • Work with the General Manager to help maintain all areas of the Dashboard for the DHS premium.
  • Ensure all brand standards/initiatives are being complied with daily.
  • Assist the GM in preparing forecasts and in developing, implementing, and monitoring the budget to maximize revenue and minimize expenses, while ensuring adequate supplies and staff are in place.  

Education and Experience

  • Associate or bachelor's degree preferred
  • Must have at least 3 years of successful AGM and/or department head experience in medium to large hotels.   
  • Marriott experience highly preferred

  • Communicate clearly and respond promptly to both large and small audiences.
  • Relate effectively to all employees, including those with limited education/experience.
  • Maintain a calm demeanor in a very fast-paced environment.
  • Fit within the hotel's culture. Has the management style and skills needed now, is collaborative and teamwork-oriented, and exhibits fairness, ethics, and integrity.  
  • Handle any emergency.
  • Inspire, train, and mentor others for promotion.
  • Multitask and delegate to achieve maximum desired results.
  • Ensure employees know that GM/AGM/Managers are working for their benefit and that there is always an open-door policy.
  • Inspire people to want to do better/to want to meet/exceed goals.
  • Set the example for everyone else in the hotel on how we should work, treat each other, ensure guests want to come back to the hotel, and resolve differences.
