Job Description
The Facilities Community Relations Specialist plays a vital role in connecting the Facilities Services Division with the broader community. This position is responsible for developing and executing outreach strategies, building relationships with community stakeholders, and supporting public engagement throughout the life cycle of school construction projects and facilities-related initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and organizational skills, along with a passion for public engagement and education infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Outreach
Identify and work with community sectors, school administrators, elected officials, legislators, Local District Superintendents, and regulatory agencies to promote understanding and support for construction projects and related initiatives.
Inform and involve communities in school construction processes, including site selection, environmental compliance (CEQA/EPA), acquisition, relocation, and design/construction milestones.
Event Planning & Representation
Schedule, coordinate, organize, and attend community meetings and events throughout the District.
Lead planning committees and coordinate logistics for special events such as groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, and school openings.
Monitor event expenditures and ensure appropriate allocation of resources.
Strategic Communication
Implement community outreach plans tailored to each assigned project.
Develop and maintain detailed project files and stakeholder contact databases.
Draft and provide reports to Community Relations supervisors for presentations to the Board of Education, Bond Oversight Committee, and other stakeholders.
Public Education & Policy Guidance
Provide accurate information to internal staff, community members, business/trade groups, and educational institutions about procurement processes and facilities policies.
Develop and disseminate promotional materials to increase public awareness and involvement.
Other Duties
Perform additional assignments as needed to support the success of community relations activities and Facilities Services Division initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Community Relations, Urban Planning, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
OR Up to 2 years of additional experience may be substituted for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
Experience
Minimum of four (4) years of full-time paid professional experience in community outreach, organizing outreach campaigns, and conducting field work with community-based organizations.
Required Skills and Knowledge
Understanding of public relations principles and local government structures.
Familiarity with current community issues and construction-related public engagement.
Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills.
Proven ability to engage with diverse stakeholder groups.
Experience with event planning, promotional material design, and compliance collaboration.
Proficiency in assimilating and presenting complex information.
Excellent organizational and detail-orientation abilities.
