Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a Facilities Maintenance and Repair (FMR) Manager. The selected candidate is responsible for the leadership of the preventative maintenance, facilities repairs, and facilities program support functions within SDL. The functional group that the selected candidate will lead is comprised of the Preventative Maintenance and Facilities Repair and Program Support teams. Reporting to the Senior Logistics Manager, the selected candidate will work closely with the Facilities Construction Management team to help ensure all work performed on SDL facilities meet existing SDL standards, procedures, and policies. The selected candidate will establish and maintain routine maintenance standards for all SDL facilities across the country to ensure reliability and continued operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and supports the coordination and administration of maintenance and facilities tasks, services, and repairs
  • Coordinates with programs to forecast staffing needs
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of assigned employees including selecting, mentoring, training, motivating, appraising, rewarding, balancing workload, team building, and other management functions
  • Oversees the training needs of facility personnel, including necessary training to keep personnel up-to-date on technologies and internal quality/staff training
  • Maintains collaborative inter-departmental and cross-functional working relationships with all members of the organization and with both office and field employees
  • Coordinates with facilities personnel to accomplish installation, maintenance, and/or refurbishment of facility systems and subsystems
  • Monitors, assesses, and evaluates quality of operations of facility systems, including identifying areas of inadequate performance looking for process improvement opportunities
  • Advises management on necessary maintenance updates and equipment replacement strategies
  • Provides input to the annual Logistics budget to include out-year planning
  • Reviews facility procedures, work instructions, and forms to ensure they accurately define current business practice
  • Engages regularly to create a positive and productive employee relations environment

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in facility operations with 3+ years in a supervisory or lead capacity
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree
  • Ability to create an environment where employees are empowered to develop innovative solutions and consistently work towards improving processes
  • Must possess expert knowledge of Utah building codes
  • Must be comfortable with reading and interpreting facility designs/architectural drawings
  • Extensive experience with planning the coordination and administration of maintenance and facilities services
  • Ability to forecast program staffing needs
  • Effectively models a strong work ethic with the ability to tackle problems and address barriers to achieving results
  • Ability to work well and closely with other Logistics counterparts
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to maintaining budget control and planning
  • Ability to demonstrate a focus on maintaining understanding of current industry trends and potential issues related to regulatory and environmental changes
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prepare and present to both technical and administrative groups in an oral presentation format
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
