Help Support a Healing Environment for America’s Fire Fighters

The IAFF Center of Excellence is seeking a dependable and skilled Facilities Maintenance Specialist to help maintain our beautiful 15-acre treatment campus in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. The IAFF Center of Excellence is a first-of-its-kind behavioral health treatment center created specifically for fire fighters and first responders struggling with PTSD, substance use, and other behavioral health challenges. Every member of our team plays an important role in supporting recovery and healing for those who dedicate their lives to helping others.

About the Facility

Located just outside Washington, D.C., the IAFF Center of Excellence provides specialized behavioral health treatment exclusively for members of the fire service community. Designed with healing in mind, our campus includes serene outdoor spaces, modern fitness amenities, and thoughtfully designed facilities that support recovery and wellness.

Our multidisciplinary team understands the unique demands and stressors faced by fire fighters and emergency medical professionals, creating a compassionate and supportive atmosphere for both patients and staff.

Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is responsible for maintaining the interior and exterior of the facility and grounds to ensure a safe, clean, and fully operational environment. This role supports the integrity of the facility by completing maintenance requests, preventative maintenance, and repairs while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Core Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned work orders and preventative maintenance tasks within established timeframes
  • Perform general maintenance duties including plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, and landscaping repairs
  • Ensure all building systems and life safety systems are functioning properly and maintained according to regulations
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory standards
  • Respond promptly to facility maintenance concerns and inspection recommendations
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors as needed for specialized repairs or projects
  • Support and facilitate fire drills and emergency preparedness procedures
  • Maintain the appearance and functionality of facility grounds and common areas
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities
  • Be available for occasional on-call maintenance needs
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Facilities Maintenance Manager

Requirements

  • Prefer high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prefer 2 years of professional experience and training in to include evidence of training in repair contracting, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, facility cleaning and related areas of facility appropriate technical areas of operation.
  • Proficiency in maintaining a high level of awareness as they move throughout the facility to address and report matters timely.
  • Demonstrate the ability to responding to emergent situations pertaining to the facility and using good judgment in addressing and reporting them. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to be a team player and to successfully interact with diverse group of employees, clients and management team to perform tasks and complete assigned work
