Job Description Summary

Organization's Summary Statement:

The Department of Facilities, Facilities Planning, Design & Construction invites applicants to apply for a full-time, temporary, contractual, exempt position. This is a six-month position with no regular benefits. The position reports to the Director.

The Project Facilities Manager plays a key role in delivering campus renovation and capital improvement projects that directly support the University's academic, research, and student life mission. This position manages small to mid-sized projects and supports larger capital initiatives from early planning through construction and closeout.

Working within Facilities Planning, Design & Construction, the Project Facilities Manager collaborates with campus leaders, design professionals, contractors, and consultants to translate institutional needs into well-executed built outcomes. The role provides meaningful project ownership, exposure to a diverse portfolio of institutional work, and hands-on involvement in the design and construction process within a dynamic higher education environment. It is well suited for a motivated professional with several years of experience who is ready to take on increasing project responsibility while contributing to the long-term development of the campus.

Salary: $10,000 per month

Safe and Sick Leave Guidelines:

  • Pursuant to the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act, if you are regularly

scheduled to work a minimum of 12 hours a week, you will be entitled to

accrue Sick and Safe leave at the rate of 1 (one) hour for every 30 hours

worked up to a maximum accrual of 40 hours per calendar year.

  • You may carry over up to 40 hours of Sick and Safe leave per calendar year.

You may use up to 64 hours of accrued Sick and Safe leave per calendar

year and may accrue up to a maximum of 64 hours of Sick and Safe leave

in total at any time.

  • You will not be eligible to use Sick and Safe leave until 106 days from your

date of hire. Sick and Safe leave balances will be carried over for contract

renewals. Upon termination from employment, you will not be entitled to

payment for any unused Sick and Safe leave balance; however, if you leave

employment and are re-employed within 37 weeks of your last contract

termination date, you will be entitled to have any unused Sick and Safe

leave reinstated.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage assigned renovation and capital improvement projects from scope

development through construction closeout

  • Coordinate with campus stakeholders, consultants, and contractors to

advance design and construction activities

  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables to ensure alignment

with institutional goals

  • Review construction documents, submittals, RFIs, and change orders in

collaboration with senior leadership

  • Conduct site visits to observe progress and support quality control
  • Maintain organized project documentation and provide regular project

status updates

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Preferences: (Education and Experience)

  • Master's degree.
  • Degree area in one of the following: Construction Management,

Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management, or a related field

  • Five to ten years of progressively responsible experience managing capital

construction projects.

  • Experience in institutional or higher education settings
  • Experience with renovation or laboratory projects
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and project scheduling tools
  • Strong attention to detail and accountability.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Collaborative working style.
  • Experience with sustainability, deferred maintenance planning, or

research/laboratory facilities is a plus.

  • May be required to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
  • May be required to operate a variety of equipment to include office

equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience in project management and complexity. Three (3) years of experience in a lead or supervisory role.

Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Knowledge of project management best practices.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Skill in Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.

Ability in project planning, execution, and risk management.

Ability to management deadlines and budgetary guidelines.
