Job Summary

Under the leadership of the Dean of the Winters School of Music and the Coordinator of Music Therapy, the Assistant Professor of Music is responsible for instructing courses and supervising clinical practica in the music therapy program. The primary responsibility is the educating and clinical training of music therapy undergraduate and equivalency students. This position also requires the development and implementation of recruitment strategies to attract students to the music therapy program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the university in implementing the Statement of Purpose.
  • Assist the university in implementing the long-range institutional and financial plans.
  • Instruct music therapy courses and supervise clinical training for undergraduate and equivalency practica.
  • Advise and guide students in finding preferred settings and clientele and assist with the development of clinical musicianship in voice, guitar, piano, and percussion.
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to music therapy students, fostering their professional development.
  • Assist with the annual facilitation of the Music Therapy Proficiency Exam for juniors.
  • Develop and implement an active recruitment plan targeting area high schools and community colleges to attract prospective music therapy students.
  • Maintain current and updated practice and techniques and maintain good standing in the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA).
  • Teach music therapy techniques specific to the populations served.
  • Assist with the annual facilitation of the Music Therapy Proficiency Exam for juniors.
  • Advocate for the field of music therapy within the community and the broader profession.
  • Assist the Coordinator of Music Therapy and the Dean with departmental needs and recruitment efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of the Winters School of Music.
