Job Description

Family Medicine Physician (with Teaching Opportunity)

Position Summary The Family Medicine Physician provides comprehensive, continuous primary care to patients across the lifespan, including preventive care, chronic disease management, and acute illness treatment. This role includes participation in medical education through teaching, supervision, and mentorship of medical students, residents, or other learners in clinical settings.

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide full-scope primary care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
  • Perform preventive care, wellness exams, and health maintenance screenings
  • Diagnose and manage acute illnesses and injuries
  • Manage chronic medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, asthma, COPD)
  • Perform minor in-office procedures as appropriate to training and privileges
  • Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists and ancillary services
  • Provide patient education on disease prevention and health promotion
  • Document encounters in the electronic medical record
  • Participate in quality improvement and population health initiatives

Teaching & Academic Responsibilities

  • Supervise and teach medical students and/or residents during clinic sessions
  • Provide bedside teaching and clinical reasoning instruction
  • Review documentation and provide feedback on patient care plans
  • Participate in case conferences, lectures, and educational conferences
  • Assist with learner evaluation and competency assessments
  • Contribute to curriculum development or educational activities as requested
  • Model professionalism, communication, and patient-centered care

Procedural Scope (Typical)

  • Skin biopsies and lesion removal
  • Incision and drainage
  • Joint injections
  • Suturing and wound care
  • Pap smears and women’s health procedures
  • Contraceptive management (e.g., IUD/implant placement if trained)
  • Basic musculoskeletal procedures

Practice Setting

  • Outpatient primary care clinic
  • Possible newborn, inpatient, or nursing facility coverage depending on practice model
  • Interdisciplinary team including nursing, care coordinators, and behavioral health
  • Academic or community training environment

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of accredited Family Medicine residency
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine
  • Eligible for unrestricted state medical license
  • DEA certification (if prescribing controlled medications)
  • Interest in teaching and mentorship

Preferred:

  • Prior teaching or precepting experience
  • Academic appointment eligibility (if applicable)
