Job Description

The Mainframe Systems Programmer provides support for on-going projects that require the installation, testing, and implementation of new operating systems and other 'system' software. Also, the Maintenance and debugging of systems software. Coordination and the IOGEN work for new MF hardware. Research and evaluation of new software and hardware products, assisting team members and other areas with technical questions and problem resolution. Monitoring and tuning of systems software. Functional knowledge, use of z/OS components and detailed knowledge of support products such as tape management, scheduling, security, monitoring systems, etc.

Associate Mainframe Systems Programmer provides support for on-going projects that require the installation, testing, and implementation of new operating systems and other system third party vendor products on Mainframe operating system. The mainframe system programmer also gets involved in the day-to-day maintenance activities, standard tasks for stability of the system and debugging of incidents reported by the customer on the mainframe system components, monitoring and tuning of various systems software components. The system programmer may also get involved in doing basic research and evaluation of new software and hardware products, assisting senior technical team members and other areas with technical questions and problem resolution.

The candidate should have functional knowledge on use of z/OS components and deeper understanding of the operating systems internals, IPL, procedure and parameter libraries and knowledge of support products such as databases (DB2), transactions systems (CICS), storage management, tape management, scheduling, security, monitoring systems, etc.

We are looking for self-motivated, willing to learn candidates with good experience on Mainframe operations and looking for career transformation to Mainframe System programming. The required training would be provided for their career transformation; however, they should have good insights into mainframe system components and able to articulate the functionality of various components. The right individual would be a self-starter who has a thorough understanding of computer systems and hardware. Operational experience is a must and many of our most successful analysts have had prior Operations or Systems Programmer experience. Only team players need apply. This is an exciting, fast paced environment with unlimited upside potential. Candidates with the following background are ideal candidates for the role

  • 1-2 years of experience in Mainframe System programming
  • Knowledge on installation, customization, upgrade of z/OS and other ISV System products on mainframes through SMPE
  • Configuration of various PARMLIB and PROCLIB members, understanding of various started tasks
  • Sound knowledge on JCL, system utilities, mainframe operating systems concepts, IPL procedure
  • Operational knowledge on z/OS, TSO Commands, System commands, JES2/JES3, VTAM, Storage and tape management, DB2, CICS, HMC etc.,
  • Experience in using ticket tracking tools for change management, incident management and problem management
  • Exposure to various debugging tools in mainframe environment
  • Exposure to working in a Multi-Processor / Multi-LPAR environment
  • Excellent written and oral skills a must.
  • Ability to work in a Team environment.
  • Must be able to communicate and interface with varied levels of Clients.
  • Must be a self-starter who requires minimal supervision.
