Strategic Comp is seeking an experienced Field Claims Specialist to manage complex, high-exposure Minnesota workers' compensation claims. In this role, you will investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve claims while partnering closely with injured workers, employers, medical providers, and legal counsel to achieve timely and effective outcomes.

Our claims philosophy is proactive, collaborative, and results-driven. We are looking for a strategic claims professional who takes ownership of the claim process, exercises sound judgment, and develops effective resolution strategies from initial investigation through closure. You'll manage a dedicated caseload of approximately 60 claims, allowing you to be proactive, build strong stakeholder relationships, and drive favorable claim outcomes.

This is a field-based position requiring approximately 60% travel within Minnesota and 40% remote work from a home office. Overnight travel may be required based on claim activity and business needs. Business travel expenses, including mileage reimbursement, are provided.

Location Requirement: Candidates must reside in Minnesota or within a reasonable distance of the Minnesota market in a neighboring state.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of complex Minnesota workers' compensation claims, some involving significant exposure.

  • Investigate claims and gather facts to determine coverage, compensability, and benefit eligibility.

  • Analyze claims and develop effective resolution strategies.

  • Establish and manage claim reserves.

  • Negotiate settlements and drive timely claim resolution.

  • Conduct face-to-face meetings with injured workers, employers, and other stakeholders.

  • Prepare and present large loss reports to internal and external audiences.

  • Attend mediations, settlement conferences, pre-trials, and trials as needed.

  • Partner closely with defense attorneys, medical case managers, surveillance vendors, and other claim resources.

  • Ensure claims are handled in compliance with Minnesota workers' compensation laws and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires 10+ years of workers' compensation claims handling experience; exceptional candidates with 7+ years of proven success handling complex or high-exposure Minnesota workers' compensation claims will be considered.

  • Active Minnesota Adjuster's License required.

  • Strong knowledge of Minnesota workers' compensation laws, regulations, and claim handling practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve complex claims.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Professional designations such as Associate in Claims (AIC) are preferred.

  • Ability to travel approximately 60% of the time.
