Position Summary
More than a job, this is a position with a higher purpose impacting people's lives on a personal, human level. As a Navian Hawaii Hospice Aide, you will guide patients and their family on their journey, delivering comfort and support with a caring heart, replacing fear with hope, helping them find the beauty and joy in every moment, and providing each person with the kindness and dignity they deserve.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist patients with personal hygiene (bathing, mouth care, skin care, hair care, shaving, etc.)
- Assists patients with other ADL’s (toileting dressing, feeding, etc.)
- Assists with ambulation and transfer activities
- Assists with ROM exercises as ordered
- Positions for comfort
- Assists with use of equipment and devices
- Assists with nutritional and dietary needs as requested by the Nurse Case Manager
- Assists in providing a safe and sanitary environment for the patient (change bed linen when necessary, tidy room as needed, adjust lighting and objects for safety and comfort, etc.)
- Reports to the Nurse Case Manager any significant changes in the patient’s condition or coping of the caregivers
- Documents all care in accordance with agency protocol
- Participates in the Interdisciplinary Team conferences
- Other related duties as assigned by the Nurse Case Managers, the Patient Care Manager(s), or the Director of Nursing and/or Clinical Administration
- Collaborates with the Interdisciplinary Team on an ongoing basis to help assure quality and continuity of care
- Performs travel as required for patient/family care
- Complies with all established agency policies and procedures
- Provides related in-service education for hospice staff and volunteers
- Actively supports the mission of Navian Hawai’i and exhibits hospice philosophy in all job-related roles
- Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skills Requirements
- Ability to be flexible and organized in planning
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients, family members, the public, and representatives of other agencies and organizations
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of individuals
Experience and Education Requirements
- Valid Certified Nurse Aide in the State of Hawai’i
- 1 year of direct patient care experience required
Employment Requirements
- Valid Hawai’i Driver’s License
- TB Clearance
- CPR & BLS Certification
Working Conditions
Indoors in patient’s homes or Navian Hawai’i home, nursing and acute care facilities as well as outdoors in all types of weather
Work Location
This position is based in the field, requiring travel to patient homes, facilities, and offices throughout Oahu using a personal motor vehicle
- Servicing the following areas: Kaimuki, Kahala, Hawaii Kai
Hours
- Generally, Monday through Friday 8am-4:30pm*
- Position may require weekend, night, or holiday availability
Physical, Mental, and Communication Demands
- Standing, sitting, walking. Lifting 25 pounds, carrying 100 pounds, pushing/pulling 100 pounds frequently
- Frequent handling (seizing, holding, grasping, or turning objects), frequent fingering (picking, pinching, or otherwise working with fingertips), step climbing, driving
- Occasional bending, stopping, climbing stairs, kneeling, and reaching above shoulder
- Must have visual, hearing, and mental ability to initiate and comprehend written and verbal communication
- Must have capability for frequent speech in English for ordinary conversation and conversation on the telephone
- Must have ability to hear clearly and good sight acuity for both near and far including good depth perception, color, and full field vision
- Cognitive abilities must include ability to solve problems, reason and analyze
- Requires learning several policies and procedures, writing, arithmetic, and problem-solving skills
- In addition to being able to fulfill the physical, mental, and communication demands listed above, must be able to follow safety instructions and demonstrate critical thinking
Salary Range
$23-25 Hourly
