Why This Role Exists
Key Responsibilities
- Accompany drill crews and field teams to log soil borings and subsurface explorations — record depths and sampling intervals, capture SPT blow counts, and describe and classify soils in the field in accordance with ASTM / USCS procedures.
- Monitor field explorations and construction activities related to AIMRIGHT's testing and engineering services.
- Complete detailed, accurate field notes and boring logs, and prepare daily field reports promptly.
- Collect, label, and transport samples (soil, groundwater, aggregate, concrete, etc.) in accordance with established procedures and chain-of-custody requirements.
- Perform and document construction materials tests as assigned — such as in-place soil density and concrete sampling — using field equipment and instrumentation, including nuclear density gauges.
- Maintain, calibrate, and safely operate field equipment and instrumentation as specified.
- Conduct field inspections safely and in accordance with AIMRIGHT health and safety guidelines and site requirements.
- Coordinate with drillers, site personnel, and project engineers; communicate field conditions and observations clearly.
- Assist with laboratory testing and sample processing when needed.
- Assist with other duties as assigned relevant to the achievement of the project's and team's objectives, such as supporting CMT / field engineering work.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with AIMRIGHT policy, with at least one year of U.S. driving experience.
- Ability to interpret technical information and follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Professional verbal and written communication skills, with reliable, accurate field documentation.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced field environment.
- Ability to obtain appropriate health, safety, and testing certifications (e.g., Nuclear Density Gauge training, ACI, 40-Hour HAZWOPER) as required for assignments.
- Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree, technical training, or relevant coursework (geology, civil/construction technology, environmental science, or a related field).
- One or more years of related field experience in geotechnical, construction materials testing, or environmental work.
- Familiarity with soil classification (USCS / ASTM), boring logs, and field sampling procedures.
- Prior experience preparing field reports and logs.
- Current certifications such as Nuclear Density Gauge, ACI Field Testing Technician Grade I, or HAZWOPER.
