Job Description

Scientific Systems Company Inc. is seeking a skilled Field Service Engineer to support UAS deployments with SSCI’s autonomy software. This hands‑on role is critical as we expand our footprint across multiple drone manufacturers.  You will work directly with customers, end‑users, and OEM teams to integrate, configure, test, and support SSCI autonomy capabilities on multiple UAS  in real-world environments.

This position combines technical integration, field operations, flight testing, customer training, and troubleshooting. It is ideal for someone who enjoys being in the field, solving hard problems, engaging with end users and working with advanced UAS platforms.

At Scientific Systems, you’ll be part of a team pushing the boundaries of autonomy, robotics, and defense innovation. As we expand our commercial and defense UAS partnerships, this role offers the chance to influence product deployment, customer success, and real-world mission impact.

Essential Functions:

  • Integrate SSCI autonomy software onto customer and OEM aircraft, including configuration of flight controllers, radios, sensors, payloads, and autonomy modules.
  • Conduct safe and compliant UAS flight operations under FAA Part 107 for testing, demonstrations, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Serve as a primary technical point of contact for customers, end‑users, and OEM teams.
  • This role will require hands-on troubleshooting fieldwork both onsite and at customer sites.
  • Diagnose issues across mechanical, electrical, networking, and software subsystems.
  • Support flight test campaigns: aircraft setup, pre‑flight procedures, mission execution, data logging, and post‑flight analysis.
  • Train customer and partner teams on the use, configuration, and maintenance of SSCI-enabled aircraft.
  • Document integration activities, troubleshooting findings, and recommended improvements.
  • Provide feedback to SSCI engineering teams to enhance cross‑platform performance, reliability, and customer experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US DOD Security Clearance.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
  • BS Degree and 5+ year of applicable work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in UAS operations, drone hardware integration, flight testing, or field engineering.
  • Proficiency with common autopilot systems (PX4, ArduPilot, or proprietary OEM controllers).
  • Strong understanding of UAS avionics, radios, sensors, power systems, and ground control interfaces.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Military service is a plus, especially experience with aviation operations, UAS units, communications, or mission‑focused technical roles.
  • Familiarity with MIL‑STD documentation, government customer environments, or defense‑related test ranges.
  • Experience supporting integration of autonomy or robotics software.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially in customer‑facing technical engagements.

Benefits

  • Salary: $100,000 - $130,000 (Depends on Experience)
  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k, IRA)
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • Family Leave (Maternity, Paternity)
  • Short Term & Long Term Disability
  • Training & Development
  • Hybrid Work Schedule
  • Free Food & Snacks
  • Wellness Resources
  • Summer 9/80 work schedule
