Field Service Technician- Electro-mechanical SystemsHunt Valve- A Fairbanks Morse Defense Company | Newport News ShipyardWe are seeking a high-energy, self-starting Field Service Technician to support Hunt Valve Company, a Fairbanks Morse Defense company, supporting critical U.S. Navy operations at the Newport News Shipyard.This is a FULL-TIME DIRECT HIRE POSITION - NOT CONTRACT.If you are looking for stability, long-term career growth, and a true technical career path, this is it.

About the RoleYou will maintain electro-mechanical actuator systems aboard U.S. Navy vessels, including Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier programs.These Hunt Valve actuators are critical shipboard systems used in the operation of:

Cargo elevatorsShipboard mechanical and control systemsOther mission-critical electro-mechanical applications aboard naval vessels

This is hands-on, precision technical work in a highly regulated, mission-critical naval environment.

Schedule & Compensation

Full-time 40-hour work weekRotating shifts:

1st Shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM2nd Shift: 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM

Every other weekend requiredOvertime availableSunday work paid at double time

Work Environment (Physically Demanding Shipyard Role)This is a physically demanding shipboard/shipyard environment requiring the ability to:

Walk long distances across shipyard and vessel spacesClimb ladders, gangways, and vertical ship access pointsWork in confined, elevated, and industrial spaces aboard shipsCarry tools, parts, and test equipment throughout the vesselWork at heights using fall protection systemsStand and work for extended periods

A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and professional presence are required for success.

Key Responsibilities

Service electromechanical actuator systems on naval platformsTroubleshoot electrical and mechanical system issuesPerform operational testing and system validationUse hand tools and calibrated test equipmentRead and interpret:

Electrical schematicsMechanical drawingsTechnical manuals

Build, repair, and test wiring harnessesDocument all work using laptop-based reporting systemsCommunicate technical findings with engineers and U.S. Navy personnelMaintain strict safety, quality, and procedural compliance

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED REQUIREDStrong electro-mechanical troubleshooting experience REQUIREDAbility to read schematics, blueprints, and technical manualsExperience with electrical test equipmentBasic computer proficiency (laptop reporting, Microsoft Office)Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervision
