About the Position

The Field Services Maintenance Apprentice is a heavy labor, mechanical-based position to maintain the City's streets, water distribution systems, and wastewater distribution/collection systems. This position is for anyone who is willing to learn and wants to do a good job with a good attitude. Apprentices have a 4-day workweek with 10-hour days and a working lunch period. They may be asked to work on-call, and there are opportunities for overtime.

Apprentices will shadow and assist their team until they can perform work with minimal supervision. A new hire is on probation for a full year, with performance evaluations completed at six (6) months and at the end of the probation period.

Upon hire, the Field Services Maintenance Apprentice will be enrolled in the United States' Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program. Once they complete one year of service and obtain the required skills, they will be reclassified as a Technician I and obtain a higher salary grade. (To date, the City of Edmond is the only municipality that can provide a distinguished DOL Journeyman Certification to Field Service professionals who have passed the Technician-I level.) This progression continues with completed training and years of service to advance to the higher levels in the program. The ability to earn higher pay is directly proportional to progressing through the levels of expertise with demonstrated proficiency.

Options Pay: Additional pay may be earned by obtaining identified job-related certifications.
