Pharmacy Financial CounselorNew York Cancer & Blood Specialists (NYCBS)Location: Shirley, NYSchedule:Full-Time

Our Pharmacy Financial Counselors play a critical role in helping patients navigate medication costs, insurance coverage, and financial assistance programs, ensuring they can access life-saving treatments without unnecessary financial barriers.

In This Role, You Will

  • Work closely with the onsite pharmacy and authorization team to review benefits of potential medication requests.
  • Work with patients to explain their financial responsibility on any prescribed medication through the pharmacy. Provide a complete estimate of service and available options in order to secure the medication for the patient.
  • Assist patients in completing Patient Assistance Applications through non-profit organizations and/or drug manufacturers programs in the event of out of pocket costs or patients rendered uninsured.
  • Research and documentation of all potential financial assistance programs are to be worked through AssistPoint portal until completion including creation of Journey notes to be signed and sent via E-Fax to OncoEMR in the patient’s medical chart
  • If patient expresses a financial hardship follow “Financial Relief Program” policy.
  • Register all commercially ensured patient’s in applicable drug replacement programs in the event insurance denies coverage of a specific drug. In addition register all newly approved FDA drugs (unclassified drugs) through manufacturer programs for specified patients where applicable.
  • Guide patients with educational materials during Open Enrollment Season (Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplements, Medicaid NYS and NY Exchange plans) that best meet their needs.
  • Update systems (both Candid and OncoEMR) of any insurance changes that are made. Verify newly entered benefits into practice management system. Work with front staff to obtain new insurance cards and demographics every 3 months.
  • Work closely with Vice President of Revenue & Chief Revenue Officer to ensure that patient financial obligations are being met and necessary drugs are approved before being ordered.
  • Work with onsite team to obtain authorizations for any add on treatment same day / next day.
  • Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information at all times.
  • A financial counselor will be expected to work when given sufficient notice of required overtime.

We Require

  • High school or GED required.
  • Must have experience working in the healthcare field, preferably in a clinical setting or businessoffice.
  • Experience in insurance requirements and medical terminology ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Experience in billing practice management systems, electronic medical record systems, Microsoft
  • Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills between co-workers, physicians, management staff,patients, insurances, outside programs.
  • Ability to multitask, problem solve, utilize basic math skills and follow complex instructions.
  • Must have ability to converse in a calm and friendly manner.
  • Able to relate and comfort patients during a difficult time.
