Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Fire Prevention and Safety Officer to join our team with primary responsibility for managing the consumer property room. This role is essential in ensuring the safe handling, accurate tracking, and timely distribution of patients’ personal belongings, while supporting a therapeutic and organized environment.Key Responsibilities:
  • Property Intake and Verification: Securely receive and verify patients’ personal belongings upon admission. Accurately inventory items, inspect property bags, and update or correct documentation as needed. Conduct property searches as necessary and in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Record Maintenance and Coordination: Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date property records for both active and discharged patients. Collaborate with consumers, family members, unit staff, the Consumer Advocate Office, and Risk Management to investigate and resolve issues related to misplaced or missing items.
  • Property Access and Distribution: Assist consumers in retrieving approved personal items deemed safe and therapeutic, following written authorization from the treatment team. Deliver property to treatment units twice daily as requested and support consumers in reclaiming their belongings at discharge.
  • Unclaimed Property Management: Notify discharged consumers in writing of any unclaimed property within ten (10) days of discharge. Maintain an updated tracking list, prepare items for shipment, and coordinate delivery to the hospital mailroom for return.
  • Mail Services Support: Manage incoming and outgoing mail operations for the facility. Responsibilities include picking up and delivering mail, sorting correspondence, and accurately weighing and metering outgoing mail, including certified, insured, and express items.
  • Unit Support as Needed: Provide support on units when required, assisting clinical staff to ensure continuity of care and a safe patient environment.
This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and compassion.Job Type/Salary:
  • 8 hours – Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm.
  • Hourly Rates:
    • Level I: $14.18 hourly
  • Potential to earn extra $$ while working an inpatient unit:
    • Extra $.50/hour for working evenings and nights
    • Extra $.75/hour for working weekends and holiday
  • Weekends May be Required!
  • FLSA Status is Non-Exempt.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
  • Level I: No education or experience required.
  • Possesses a strong commitment to patient well-being and safety.

Special Requirements:
  • Upon a conditional offer of employment, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services applicants must submit to a physical examination and shall meet the physical examination requirements of occasionally lifting/carrying 50 pounds and able to push and pull a maximum force of 25 pounds.
  • Applicants must be willing and able to fulfill any job-related travel normally associated with this position and as such have a valid driver’s license.

About us:About Us: Griffin Memorial Hospital (GMH) is located in Norman, Oklahoma, and serves all 77 counties in Oklahoma as a Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) treatment center for adults.
