Job Description

The Fire Science & Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program prepares students to become certified firefighters and licensed EMTs, with a focus on EMT studies during the junior year and fire science training in the senior year. Junior students will engage in essential skills such as basic first aid, patient care, and emergency response protocols. In the senior year, students will participate in immersive fire training, including drills in the burn trailer, operating fire hoses for car and structure fire suppression, and learning extrication techniques for vehicle accidents. They will also complete ride-alongs with local fire departments like the Fort Osage Fire Protection District and Independence Fire Department, gaining valuable real-world experience. With the addition of the new CTC Fire Training Tower for the 2025-2026 school year, students will have even more opportunities for hands-on learning. In conjunction with fire training, the EMT program prepares students to become licensed by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) as EMT-Basics. Successful completion of the CTC EMT program, combined with licensure from the Missouri Division of Emergency Medical Services, may result in 8 hours of articulated college credit for students who continue on to the Paramedics program at Metropolitan Community College.
