Specific Job Information:

This internship will run from Mid-May 2026 to Mid/Late August 2026. This internship will include housing here at the Fort Peck Hatchery for the duration of the internship. Housing is dorm room style with access to common area, kitchen and laundry services. Private quarters with own restroom and shower. However, Intern will be asked to share room with another individual if space is needed. In-lieu of rent, Intern will be required to do environmental services duties around hatchery, along with internship job duties.

Fort Peck, Montana is a hidden gem nestled in the Northeast corner of Montana. The town of Fort Peck (population -- 235) and the Fort Peck Multispecies Fish Hatchery (FPH) sit below Fort Peck Reservoir. This reservoir is the largest hydraulically filled dam in the USA. Fort Peck Reservoir is known for its world-class fishery and is surrounded by world-class hunting and other outdoor opportunities. The town of Fort Peck is located 17 miles south of the "Middle of Nowhere", Glasgow, MT. Fort Peck is two hours to either Miles City, MT or Williston, ND, and is four and five hours from Billings, MT (Montana's largest city) and Great Falls, MT.

Job Duties:

Participate in the daily duties/activities of the Fort Peck Fish Hatchery, to include outdoor pond, raceway and indoor hatchery tasks. This internship will also include ground-keeping tasks and duties around hatchery grounds.

Outdoor pond tasks to include, but not limited to pond fertilizing, fry stocking, water quality analysis, pond observations, pond draining, fingerling collection and fingerling stocking in and around FWP Region 6.

Outdoor raceway tasks include but are not limited to daily raceway cleaning and feeding of fish species, bi-weekly sampling, inventory of fish, fish crowding, splitting and stocking of fish species in and around FWP Region 6.

Indoor hatchery tasks include but are not limited to daily tank cleaning and feeding of fish species, bi-weekly sampling, inventory of fish, moving of fish species to different tanks or outdoor raceways and stocking of fish species in and around FWP Region 6.

The intern will gain hand on experience in Fish Culture techniques, dealing with fish eggs, fry, fingerlings and catchable species.

Grounds-keeping tasks to include, but are not limited to mowing, weed eater use and pulling, tree and shrub removal, ground clearing, and general upkeep of the facility and grounds.

Other duties may include data entry and analysis, help other hatcheries and fisheries crews when needed with tasks to complete program objectives, and vehicle/equipment maintenance and upkeep.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

Needs to be actively enrolled in a college.
