Specific Job Information:
This will include rearing, feed training, feeding, pond draining, fish enumeration, sampling, stocking, grounds keeping. We raise and deliver fish for the publicly fished waters of Montana. This is a warm, cool and cold-water hatchery that raises Walleye, Largemouth Bass, Yellow Perch, White Crappie, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Fathead Minnow, Yellow Perch, Rainbow trout and Pallid Sturgeon.
You will assist the staff of the Miles City Fish Hatchery in the day-to-day operations of the hatchery, to include outdoor pond, raceway and indoor hatchery tasks. This internship will also include ground-keeping tasks and duties around hatchery grounds.
Outdoor pond tasks to include, but not limited to pond fertilizing, fry stocking, water quality analysis, pond observations, pond draining, fingerling collection and fingerling stocking in Montana.
Outdoor raceway tasks include but are not limited to daily raceway cleaning and feeding of fish species, bi-weekly sampling, inventory of fish, fish crowding, splitting and stocking of fish species in Montana.
Indoor hatchery tasks include but are not limited to daily tank cleaning and feeding of fish species, bi-weekly sampling, inventory of fish, moving of fish species to different tanks or outdoor raceways and stocking of fish species in Montana. The intern will gain hand on experience in Fish Culture techniques, dealing with fish eggs, fry, fingerlings and catchable species.
Grounds-keeping tasks to include, but are not limited to mowing, weed eater use and pulling, tree and shrub removal, ground clearing, and general upkeep of the facility and grounds.
Other duties may include data entry and analysis, help other hatcheries and fisheries crews when needed with tasks to complete program objectives, and vehicle/equipment maintenance and upkeep.
Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
Needs to be actively enrolled in a college. Undergrad I Suggested majors Fisheries, Aquaculture, Forestry or Wildlife.
