FITNESS INSTRUCTOR- WATER AEROBICS

DEPARTMENT: FITCITY CENTER

JOB CLASSIFICATION: PART TIME

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the general direction of the Fitness Coordinator, Aqua Instructors will lead various fitness classes at the FitCity Center for various age groups and skill levels.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Instruct fitness classes in assigned format(s)
Create and maintain a positive and motivating atmosphere through fitness classes or events
Assist recreation staff as needed and perform other related duties as required.
Under the direction of the Fitness Coordinator may assist in planning fitness programs, classes, and special events.
Assists members of the public as needed.
Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job, including frequently lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance, and up to 150 pounds with assistance and without difficulty.
Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, members and guests
Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position including working some nights, weekends, and holidays. Must abide by all city policies and procedures. Must work well with others and be a team player.
Other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Six (6) months experience teaching fitness classes. Must be at least 18 years old or have graduated from high school.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Sufficient knowledge of the fitness format(s) you teach. Ability to connect with and motivate people in various age groups and backgrounds. Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly, but with tact; demonstrate good judgment in decision making. Good communication skills are vital. Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and productive manner. Ability to represent the department in a professional manner to the general public.

Must possess or be able to obtain a Red Cross Certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and any other specifically related, required, and/or beneficial certifications.

Ability to work well with other employees.
