Job Description
Job Title: Fitness Attendant, Speer Branch YMCA Description: The Fitness Attendant is responsible for guiding beginning and experienced exercisers through the YMCA Fitness Program. The goal of this program is to assist members in making a healthy lifestyle change and to build self-esteem. The role of the Fitness Attendant is to assist members through this process by providing personalized attention, support and motivation. The attendant will provide character development, health education and instruction that will lead to member retention and involvement. In addition, the fitness attendant is responsible for providing a safe and clean environment in the wellness center. Available Schedules: Weekdays: Evening shifts from 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM Weekends: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM, morning or afternoon shifts 15–25 hours per week Duties: Provide members with opportunities that will increase their involvement, sense of belonging, and sense of ownership of YMCA. Effectively provide instruction on how to utilize all fitness equipment. Make helpful suggestions as you identify members who may be using unsafe or ineffective techniques. Answer members' questions, concerns and complaints in a timely and courteous manner. Provide proper health counseling that will meet the unique needs and wants of each member to the best of their ability and knowledge. Motivate members by building relationships and connect them to programs to encourage long-term participation. Ensure equipment is clean by physically cleaning equipment. Regularly check all equipment to ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness. Understand, abide by, and enforce YMCA policies and procedures. Positively explain and interpret policies to members. Be familiar with emergency procedures. Respond promptly and appropriately. Abide by the safety, injury, illness and prevention guidelines by taking personal responsibility for your safety and the safety of your program participants. Understand and promote all YMCA programs values. Requirements: Minimum 18 years of age Requires high school degree or equivalent Must possess current CPR and First Aid Certification or obtained within 30 days Must be able to understand the components and principles of fitness and fitness equipment and be able to discuss them in laymen terms Must possess a professional image and ability to provide positive feedback, motivation, and encouragement Must be able to possess and set an example of health and fitness and member service Pass a 10-panel drug screen Clear a Level 2 background check
- Pay & Perks: Part-time, $14.00 per hour. Free YMCA membership for employee and discount for household family members.
