So, what will the Fleet Vehicle Mechanic at Terrestris do?
The Fleet Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of a diverse fleet of assets, including light- and heavy-duty vehicles, including gasoline and diesel engines, buses, 4x4 trucks and SUV's, fuel box trucks, vans, and forklifts. This role is critical to maintaining operational readiness by ensuring all vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable, and compliant with applicable regulations. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical experience across diesel and gasoline engines, as well as refrigeration and material handling equipment.
What does a typical day look like for a Fleet Vehicle Mechanic?
You will:
· Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on light- and heavy-duty vehicles (gasoline and diesel engines)
· Maintain and repair buses, vans, and commercial fleet vehicles
· Inspect, diagnose, and service fleet vehicles, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.
· Conduct maintenance and repairs on forklifts and material handling equipment (diesel-powered)
· Diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic system issues using diagnostic tools
· Perform brake, suspension, transmission, and engine repairs
· Conduct DOT inspections and ensure all fleet assets meet federal, state, and local compliance requirements
· Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform field repairs as needed
· Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and parts inventory
· Coordinate with fleet management to schedule preventive maintenance and minimize downtime
· Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including hazardous material handling (fuel systems)
· Clean and prepare vehicle for use by customers
· Support mobile or deployed operations as required
What qualifications do you look for?
You might be the professional we're looking for if you have:
· High school diploma or equivalent (Technical or Trade School preferred)
· 3+ years of experience as a fleet, diesel, or heavy equipment mechanic
· Experience working on a mixed fleet (light/heavy vehicles, buses, forklifts, or similar)
· Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, electrical systems, and hydraulics
· Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams
· Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair equipment
· Valid driver's license (CDL preferred or ability to obtain)
· Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in indoor/outdoor environments
We will be extra impressed if you have:
· ASE Certifications (e.g., T-Series, Medium/Heavy Truck, or Equipment certifications)
· Forklift maintenance certification or OEM training
· Experience supporting government contracts or regulated fleet operations
· Familiarity with fleet maintenance management systems
Work Environment:
· May require travel to support off-site or deployed fleet operations
· On-call or after-hours support may be required based on mission needs
