Food Safety & Quality Manager

A rapidly growing food manufacturer is seeking a Food Safety & Quality Manager to lead plant-level food safety, quality, and sanitation programs. This role ensures regulatory compliance, drives SQF certification, and strengthens overall food safety culture. The position reports to the Plant Manager with a dotted-line to Quality & Regulatory leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead HACCP, Preventive Controls (PCQI), SSOPs, allergen control, and environmental monitoring programs.
  • Maintain readiness for USDA, FDA, SQF, and customer audits; manage findings and corrective actions.
  • Trend and report FSQ performance metrics; drive continuous improvement through data analysis.
  • Oversee traceability, recalls, incident investigations, and regulatory/customer documentation.
  • Manage supplier approval and incoming material quality programs.
  • Train and develop FSQ staff; support plant-wide food safety culture and competency.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, R&D, and Maintenance to ensure FSQ is built into processes and equipment changes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Animal/Meat Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s a plus).
  • 5+ years FSQ leadership in USDA-regulated food manufacturing (RTE preferred).
  • HACCP certification and PCQI required.
  • Experience with SQF or other GFSI schemes.
  • Strong knowledge of FSMA, USDA FSIS, and FDA regulations.
  • Skilled in SPC, root cause analysis, and CAPA management.
  • Proven leadership capabilities in training, coaching, and team development.
